Interesting Terrelle Pryor story from SI

  • He comes across a bit phony to me, but I'm still rooting for him with the Raiders:

Raiders backup quarterback Terrelle Pryor barely hesitated on April 29 when he received a question about his mental state. The tweet read:

  • Why are the Buckeyes in the news every, single, day? Positive or negative ... it's just getting annoying.

  • Hey am I wrong for being a buckeye with no problems with Pryor I think ppl put the fall of Tressel on him! Call him a diva, prima dona, whatever you need to but as much as we bag on the guy he's not the reason for the fall. As the other players showed us with him, and even this summer without em, maybe I just remember a lot of 3rd & 11's with # 2 making a play. Now of course I like Brax more an think his ceiling is higher, but come on # 2 did win us 33 games his last 2 years starting (just saying)!

Ohio State is the Frank Sinatra of college football. Universally loved and hated, respected and reviled, all at the same time. Personally, I am used to it so it doesn't bother me anymore. Fuck them. Ohio State isn't going away. We will be here to piss them off for a long time.

No, the Raiders did not have a draft.

In all seriousness, no, they did not take a QB in the draft. But they did recently sign Matt Leinart to compete with TP for the backup QB job behind C.Palmer.

Pryor made a lot of mistakes, and thank goodness the damage was as limited as it was. He is onto a dog eat dog environment now, he will make or break his own future. At OSU, he put himself above most his teammates, coaches and the school. Yes, he moved on, but we minimized damage he did. Best move Fickell ever did, encouraging him to move on. Short term loss last year, long term band aid.

  • I still feel the same way now as I did then after reading that.

What Terrelle did was stupid, but so is the rule that punished him. TP was stupid for breaking a well known rule, but the rule is stupid just as equally because an athlete should be allowed to sell and barter WHATEVER they want if its their property so long as they are selling or buying something that is NOT illegal like drugs or prostitutes or etc...

The problem is the NCAA has rules in place that stop everyone INCLUDING the players from making one dime off of what they constantly market as "THEIR product"; That being the NCAA Football goldmine.

So, I look at it like whatever, it happened its over. The NCAA is the big brother of college athletes all across the U.S. and while I don't support players being paid for playing I do support the removal of rules that stop players from recieving special treatment and financial benefits because of their stardom.

An NCAA athlete is NO DIFFERENT than a Pro athlete, they both generate income for their organizations, they both do press conferences, they both generate buzz, they both are highly marketable, and they both get micro-analyzed for everything they do by the media; THE ONLY DIFFERENCE is that Pro athletes get a slice of the special treatment and financial benefits they generate whereas NCAA athletes don't.

I agree with your position on the NCAA and their hypocrisy....to a point.

However, I have a hard time saying that the players don't make 'a dime.' Don't they get a free education? Living expenses? Per diem?

True point on that, however the free education is because of a full ride scholarships that even some non-athletes get attending college anywhere so I can't back you on that. Living expenses are a bare bare baaaaare amount designed to give you the bare minimum of life's expenses.

Overall there's nothing real that a college athlete IS ALLOWED(via the NCAA) to receive that non-athletes(Ungoverned by the NCAA) at colleges everywhere don't get just the same, except for maybe the pittance of money they get when they're on the road; and again that money is designed to get you the bare minimum and nothing more.

College athletes don't get any cut of the income that the NCAA get's from the performance of college athletes and I'm fine with that as mentioned. However, as the NCAA body don't sit there and tell me as a student-athlete that not only will you not give me a cut of the money you make off of me but also tell me that I can't receive special treatment or receive cash/gifts from people because I am a well-known to famous sports star. That's highway robbery.

Maybe. But either way it sounds like he has a good handler who taught him to give interviews. He didn't come off as some jumped up gangster thug from the projects.

I thought he was more than candid. If he wasn't being sincere then he has had some time to polish that story up.

Count me among those who want to see what he can do at the NFL level. The kid is a legit athletic freak and nobody else in the league can compare to his size and top end speed. 6'6" 240lbs that runs a 4.2 40 and stiff arms 300lbs defensive linemen? Give me some of that.
