Jacobs A Buckeye: The Impact

  • I am extremely excited to be recruiting speed again. It would be nice to see us with three or four receiver sets with 4.3 speed guys flying around everywhere putting pressure on defensesntonmake quicker decisions. Go Bucks!

Sorry but am I the only one that thinks this kid looks more like a Jockey then a football player, #145 ranked WR and #20 ranked player in Maryland. Way to go Zach, and people were saying you couldn’t recruit. Oh well, maybe I’m wrong and he can ride the horse named Carlos Hyde all the way in the end zone.

Did you watch the film? Are you aware he camped and earned an offer and by all accounts was very impressive? If Urban saw this kid in person and offered and we all know how high of standards he sets for his receivers, then we should all keep our mouths shut.

  • I am excited that he is a Buckeye he will do very well in our offense.

  • He has one of two things that none of us, including Woody, Bo, Bear, Earle, Tress and even Urban can't coach.....SPEED..the other is SIZE....and the position he will play will NOT require SIZE. As John McKay, USC said in the 60's...the football isn't that heavy to run with...and just wait, I have full confidence that Coach Meyer will be able to put him in situations where he can just run baby !! GO BUCKS !!

  • I know one impact he has had. We have moved from 11 to 8 on team rankings. Not a bad jump for landing a 3 star.

    sweet!!!!....er... no...

thats like me saying im pumped for a kid from westerville south because they produced big kat, lance moore, and keeyjaaanaaaa caaartaaaaa

im sure they sitll have that 1993 coaching staff in there that helped out chad scott

I believe he is referring to the quality of the talent from that school and area over time, regardless of the coaches. I also trust UFM and company.

BTW, "Buddy" is a condescending term. Similar to "Pal."

  • This was a kid that we saw in camp, against good competition before we accepted his offer.

His rating and the level of competition at his high school are basically immaterial. The staff saw him in person against good competition. He earned a committable offer, others didn't, other more highly rated kids are still waiting to decide.

Welcome aboard Mr. Jacobs. Hope you make a splash on special teams right away.

Exactly, Meyer only had 6 scholarships left (now 5), does anyone believe he is going to spend them haphazardly on people who will never play at OSU? Let's see, isn't this his fourth rodeo? Anyone remaining on the current list would have been a huge fish back-in-the-day when we were only going for 3 or 4 big ones and holding our breaths till signing day. And remember when the 3 or 4 guys at the bottom of a recruiting class were usually from Ohio and were projects at best - most of whom had scout-team careers.

Huh?? You're talking about an All-American at Ohio State, an All-American at Penn St., and a productive WR that's currently in the league. The point was just because his games are during the day and they don't have big bleachers does not mean this kid isn't an elite recruit. Your rationale doesn't make any sense.

Good post I follow you: the only problem is you assumed some of these fools use logic...or actual have experience past there glory days 20 years ago...

Santonio played at about 170-175 his freshman year. Jacobs has maybe another 10-11 months before he steps into the WHAC for the new gig.

Maybe he will eat something in the meantime. Maybe he'll physically mature a bit more( duhhh). Might lift a barbell or two.

I'll bet plenty with any of the doubters on this thread that the young man's listed weight in the game program his first OSU season is 175.

This same high school has produced such NFL talents as Navarro Bowman (former Penn St. linebacker current 49ers linebacker), Lamont Jordan (2nd round pick by the Jets, current Raider), and Chad Scott (1st round pick by the Steelers in 1997). Don't judge a book by it's cover. Take a look at Stefon Diggs highlight tape.. the majority of his games are also during the day.

There is a reason most of the games for the DC city schools are in the daytime. It reduces the probability of "incidents" around the stadiums significantly. Not a very healthy environment in many/most areas of DC at night. It isn't like a friday night in Ohio towns.

  • ESPN has Jacobs listed at 5'10, 165. Those numbers were taken at the Baltimore SPARQ combine LAST year (i.e., his sophomore year). At that event he also clocked a 4.47 electronic forty and a 4.19 shuttle. For comparisons sake, Derrick Green (who claims to have run in the 4.3's) ran a 4.58 forty and 4.31 shuttle at the same event.

Here was the write up they had on Jacobs from that combine last year:

Taivon Jacobs ('13), WR (Forestville, Md./Suitland)
He clocked a 4.47 40 and a 4.19 shuttle. Clemson, Maryland and Notre Dame are showing interest and Jacobs plans to camp at Ohio State, Rutgers and Maryland. The Buckeyes are his childhood favorite and his older brother, Levan, signed with Marshall last February.

When he is 5'11", 175 and putting the rock in the zone on Saturdays are you going to fill the same? Kid has ups and speed. Has good vision and acceleration. What film did you look at? Just saying.

    I'll trust UFM myself.

  • Did I see something in Bill's writeup that said he scored 19 td's of 38 catches? I was thinking to myself while watching the "highlight tape), that this recruit doesn't get tackled much, and he doesn't go down very easily.

I look at him and I see some Santonio Holmes here. Hopefully he catches everything thrown his way like Santonio did. Welcome #1 to Ohio State, I like your attitude, now help win that crystal
