Joe Bauserman

Beville for Wisconsin years ago. And not to pick on Herbie for his recent dramas and all, but his play on the field was pretty bad at times.

Herbie was an option qb. Cooper in his infinite wisdom had Herbie come in and pass and Kent Graham come in and run the option. Tried to fool em all if ya get my drift.

  • Ok. We know Bauserman wasnt a very good Qb. He was only there because TP was suspended and was out diming out his buddies to get into the nfl. Bauserman was at OSU because no other QB would come her because they knew TP was here and they probably wouldnt see the field as long as he was here. Braxton was ready to take over after TP graduated. Bollman kept the Tressel regime going by being loyal to the seniors no matter of their talent. Thank goodness Urban is here to play the best players no matter what. I think Bauserman is a great kid, but was way out of his element at a big University like OSU. He probably would if done a great job at a MAC school with a decent offensive coordinator. Ps: believe me, there are alot of idiot players to come through OSU than to bash Bauserman. Go bucks.

  • What did you want Joe to do? refuse to go into the game when the "coaches" told him to go out there.Yes, he was terrible, but he gave it everything he had and never complained. Besides, I saw Bellasari play and I would put him right down there at the bottom.

I am an old infantryman. Joe Bauserman was a character guy. For 4 years he played second string and watched himself be passed over by younger stars. For 4 yours, all he did was whatever was asked of him without hesitation or complaint. Without once allowing the vitriol spewed by an unreasonably ungrateful segment of the fan-base to cause him pause or disgruntlement. If I'm going to a fight where it really counts, I'll take a character guy before I take a commentator. If you understand me.

I agree with this sentiment. I'll go further and say that I believe his skills or lack there of were more attributable to the POOR offensive coaching going on. We just had our current headcoach say the WRs are the WORST prepared group he's EVER seen. He coached at BG for god's sake! This is THE Ohio State University. You can't look good or EVEN OK throwing the ball if no one is prepared. Just saying.

I salute JB for his steadfast allegiance and never give up attitude to my and his alma mater.

    Thank you Mr. Bauserman.

  • Bauserman should have never been put not the situation he was in. I think Tressel and Fickell played "senioritis" and overlooked Guiton, which evidently Meyer feels can play. Also, to me, Bauserman had horrible QB coaching. I think the QB coach told him, "when in trouble throw it away". I dont think he meant for him to hit a hot dog vendor in the 20th row of A deck!

  • Well this thread clearly did not achieve what I had intended...probably should have just titled it "Worst QB in D-1 history". I agree that Joe B. was a character guy and maybe it wasn't right to pick on him, I was just looking for some fodder during the offseason and regardless of the situation the coaches put him in, he is far and away the worst QB I have ever watched play a D-1 college football game. I'd be curious to hear everyone else's all time worsts, not just at OSU.

This made me laugh, because I've been there many times. Some posts seem like a good idea at the time but really don't work out the way you envisioned. I usually just start typing and respond, and as my wife can tell you, my filter doesn't work very well. Luckily we have a few thousand other Buckeyes to get us back on track! I don't take it personally.

Not to bring up old wounds (and not to bash a guy that is no longer part of the team) but I was just thinking back over the past 10 - 15 years of Buckeye football trying to think of a worse QB than Joe B. And the more I started thinking, the more I realized that I don't think I've ever seen a worse QB on ANY D-1 college team I've ever watched. I'm sure he is a hell of a nice guy and probably a decent pitcher since he was a Pirates minor leaguer, but dude was seriously awful and looked like a deer in headlights every time he took a snap and missed by probably 5 yds on ever pass he threw. So my question to all of you is...can you name anybody worse, not even just in the OSU annals?
