John Simon

Where is this guy in 12 months? he will test well at the combine and probably measure somewhere around 6'2" 270. but what position does he play at the next level. As much as I love this guy, i dont know if a position exists for him on sundays. If Vernon Gholston couldnt cut it , does Simon? And while we are one the subject, isnt Simon (in terms of what he can do) an exact replica of Thad Gibson, who also doesnt have a spot in the NFL ?

do not compare him to VG. I would take JS over 10 VG. Gholston couldn't cut it because he did not want to. There is always a place for guys like Simon. He will be fine. Plus let him get through this year before we worry about what he will do next year.

This post isn't a knock on Simon we are just wondering where he fits in scheme-wise in the NFL. I love the NFL draft and have thought about this as well. Alot of OSU fans think he is 1st rounder but that is not reality. I enjoy these types of posts if you don't, that is fine but why can't we discuss it?
Also if VG was tearing up the NFL you wouldn't be making that statement. He was a great college player. His 14 sacks his junior year is 4 more than Simon has in his career.

im not trying to split hairs here, and i certainly value your opinion, but here are the stats for Gholston's only 3 yrs and Simons first 3 yrs in a Buckeye uniform.
VG - 87 tackles, 22.5 sacks, 1 int, 3 pass def, 1 fumb rec, 1TD
JS - 94 tackles, 10 sacks, 5 pass def, 3 fumb rec
Simon has the better of him in almost all catagories, aside from the one that counts most for DE's. My point, Gholston was pretty solid and maybe better than you remember.

I think he would do best at MLB. Maybe not enough speed for OLB....but certainly enough speed and stout for the middle.

You say that now about VG, but when he was coming out, he looked like a stud. His last game against Michigan was sweet. I also remember when Tressel had VG on a play against Michigan sprint to the side Manningham was lined up on after the snap and laid him out. Manningham disappeared the rest of the game. VG was a very productive Buckeye. Like Quinn Pitock, he was not ready for the NFL football commitment.
