Any chance we land Seantrel Henderson? (J/K)
Actually, I'm curious as to how many spots we REALLY have available. I keep hearing people mention 5 or 6 and I just don't see how that's possible (I think there's only like 1 or 2 open scholarships left). Could you break it down?
Another question: Are we going to land any big time wide receivers in the near future? Back in the day we had Teddy Ginn Jr, Anthony Gonzales, Santonio Holmes, Devier Posey, etc. We haven't been recruiting big time WR well lately (swung and missed on Stefon Diggs; this season we're apparently cooling on or becoming less interesting to Robert Foster and James Quick). It's quite discouraging. What are your thoughts?
Vonn Bell is a must get for us. However, there's a lot of talk going around that he would pick Tennessee if they have a good season this year. Is there any validity whatsoever to that statement? Are we second fiddle until Tennessee proves for the umpteenth year in a row that they suck.
Dorian Johnson: Most say he's favoring Pitt, but he did go out of his way to say that Ohio State was at the top with Pitt. What are your gut feelings on him? Do you think we have a great shot at walking away with yet another elite OT?
Thanks for taking the time to answer our questions. You're the best!
Thanks for doing this recruiting chat Bill. I am beginning to believe that recruiting discussions / predictions are better than actual football (I know I'm considering professional help).
1, There seems to be on-going discussions about Shelton Gibson's academic issues. According to 247 Sports he has an offer from Vanderbilt. My take has always been if a recruit had an offer from Vanderbilt (or Stanford or Duke) there was little possibility that academics are a problem. Is that true, or do even these "smart" schools occasionally make academic exceptions for special athletes?
2, Is it your experience that once the football season begins, recruit verbals end? Or are there occasions when a recruit will call a coach during the season and make a commitment? I'm sure you know where I'm going with this, are there any OSU recruits out there that just might pull the trigger during the season?
Bill, it seems that Meyer will probably have a tendency to land suprise commits closer to signing day. Are there any players out there right now that you think could end up being pursued heavily by Meyer closer to signing day who haven't been recruited as heavily up to this point?
This question is a little offbeat but here goes: We've been spoiled at Ohio State with great mobile quarterbacks. We had Troy Smith, who beat the tar out of TTUN and went on to win a Heisman. As his eligibility neared its end, we grew paranoid about not having a playmaker to step up. Shortly afterwards, we land top overall prospect Terrelle Pryor. He ends up being this big, fast, otherworldly talent who helps OSU win a ton of games (although the argument can be made he fell WAY short of expectations). Then as Pryor got older and the fear of lacking a playmaking quarterback grew, along comes Braxton Miller. Miller is an electrifying playmaker and I think he will do great things by the time he graduates. However, as he gets older, that fear of lacking an otherworldly talent at QB will continue to grow again. I'm not trying to say JT Barrett won't be great. He could end up being better than all of them. However, he isn't as highly regarded as Pryor and Miller were in high school. My question is this: Are there any high school freshman/sophomore quarterbacks who are starting to make some serious noise with their athleticism and build hype with their playmaking ability (in the mold of Pryor or Miller)? If there are, are they interested in Ohio State?
