  • If this game was played in the regular season, Boyd would be the heismsn front runner.

  • So there you go. After reading the first 50 posts of this thread youd think LSU won this game 50-0. Thats part of our problem. Even B10 fans are drinking the kool aid. LSU got BEAT and people are still talking like theyre unbeatable. Last year Clemson got waxed in their bowl, this year they beat an SEC heavyweight yet all people talk about is the SEC? Its ridiculous.

I think I've heard many times that to make this SEC thing fade away three things have to happen.

    1. Bad coaching changes. (Petrino and Meyer are no longer there....Miles and Saban have one foot out the door. Although Muschamp and Malzahn could be good.)

    2. Beat them on the field. The media will do the rest.

    C. Scandals. The SEC is due for some NCAA love soon.

My wife and I (she's born and raised Louisiana) were high fiving last night when he kicked that field goal. We both despise LSU because of their fans. Absolute worst I've ever seen. Hate, hate, hate.

Clemson had the "beat the SEC" formula last night. Never give up, make big plays, attack the QB.

    Boyd was money.

If Nebrasky, Michigan, and ND can pull off wins........there is a God and he's from the Midwest.

  • Meyer's year one plan is ahead of schedule, with an up tempo offense that can get 20 to 25 extra plays a game and wear defenses down.
Oregon does it, but their defenses are weak and their OL talent not great.
Texas A and M had Bama gassed most of the whole second half with that up tempo offense, Bama was spent. TAMU also had enough defense to slow down the Tide run game and McCarron is not a big time QB to lead 4th quarter come backs a lot.
Once the mid third quarter point hit and all those extra quick offensive plays kicked in for Clemson, LSU was spent. Miles admitted it after the game, shame on a typical horrible Big Ten reffing crew for not flagging LSU once for faking injuries over and over trying to buy time and rest.
Clemson also had enough defense to slow down the LSU run game, and get after Lerch Mettenberger with the pass rush.
Meyer will have the QB's and offense that Clemson used and get those extra plays and wear defenses down, he also will have a top 10 defense with a SEC front seven style as well, sit back and enjoy.

  • Clemson opens up with Georgia in Atlanta next season, if the Tigers can pull that upset (Georgia losing a lot on defense), their program is closing into the fast lane faster.
I might even take Swinney over Richt with a whole off season to prepare, Georgia almost always stubs their toe early in September under Richt.

Agreed, LSU has pulled that same bullshit against Oregon and West Virginia. You'll notice that those players come right back in after sitting out a play.
    Question:
Could we all agree that this SEC dominance is about better players? There is no magic formula or coach. It's all about recruiting the best players. Les Miles is a skunkbear, grass eatin' tool. He was an average coach at Okie State.

    Same with Saban...mediocre at Sparty.

The sheer amount, size, speed, of some of these SEC teams is mind boggling, A lot of teams would have wilted last night when LSU went ahead. Credit to Clemson for saying fuck you and making plays.

Meyer understands this and is going after the best players nationally.

I do believe however that CFB and pro football is changing to the up tempo spread offense. Great equalizer,

  • Must be 4 years ago now..the O-D HS All American Bowl was in town. I got to see Mettenburg (and Geno Smith) up close. Even then..Mutt just didn't have the charisma to get people motivated to play with him Geno was on a whole different level. LSU might have been better served had they gone with Bolden or a younger kid.

The following year I saw Davis Ash and Cardale up close. I posted here that I thought Ash was clearly the better QB..not even close..then Cardale went out and won MVP of the game by streetballing his way through 4 qtrs.

Both the NFL AND cfb have become so QB-centric....everyone wants to talk defense..but in this up tempo era...a defesne will only get you so far. Even the good ones wear down with the strategy of not allowing them to substitute. Defensive coaching is going to get the point like a hockey line change in order to stay fresh and get pressure. Sideline substitution mgtm. is going to get more critical in the coming years.

oldest trick in the book in wrestling. If you're gassed..grab a calf and yell cramp. Get a drink, get your wind and then go like hell.

I don't think you can classify what saban did at MSU as 'medicrity'. Look what he took over. He turned them around in short time and beat the #1 team on the road as a 28 pt. underdog...which has only been outdone twice? in the history of college football.

Saban is the kind of coach that will beat you with his players and take your players and win as well. I would put him and Meyer as the only two current coaches that you could say that about.

  • You are 100% correct. The NFL bears this out.....a good QB even equals stability at head coach. If you don't have the right guy you're gonna be out of a job quick.

Good points on Saban but he really struggled at LSU and Bama until he got some players under his belt.

I do think he has a "system" in place that works fantastically with the idea for a player of being " NFL ready / high draft pick" as the carrot he dangles. Saban has earned his reputation in this area with recruits.

Oversigning a shit-ton doesn't hurt either. Although I am a fan of oversigning and wish the B1G would loosen it's rules.

Les Miles just plain eats crayons. That's all players.

Sumlin and TAMU caught Bama totally off guard, with that off tempo and all those odd ball formations.
All those first half quick no huddle plays, and the bigger Bama 3-4 front D defenders were gassed chasing Manziel around.
They were hugging their hips the whole second half, substutiting or not. TAMU went so fast, many times they could not sub players gassed as well.
TAMU is rumored to now land WR Stevens from FSU and LaRue from USC, and you can bet Sumlin is not changing.
Ole Miss is going up tempo.
Saban has his defense built with a 3/4 with bigger players for the LSU's, USC's, Georgia's and Florida's and their power game with pro style passing, he may have to change some with Sumlin at TAMU, they play them every year now.
Also Malzahn is back at Auburn, and his spread with Newton gave elite defenses at Bama under Saban fits, they were glad Chizik went pro style went Malzahn left.
Bama is elite, their future now faces quite a few more spread up tempo offenses, with elite athletes to attack a Tide defense built to stop teams like LSU.

What a great game. Boyd played a gutsy game and made great plays with LSU living in his backfield, but he did not look like a Hiesman winner to me. How many times did he trip over his own feet?

  • great game - I love to see SEC teams lose in Bowl Games :)

I'm surprised LSU could lose with 'all that speed' of the SEC.... sigh overrated - terrible offense, they made Clemson's front line look fantastic.

Terrible set of offensive play calls with LSU's last possession, they should have run the ball 3 times, instead they throw 3 times.. Horrible
