LeBron or Durant To Start Team?

  • Who would you go with to start a team if you had to pick either Kevin Durant or LeBron James?

    Bill Kurelic

  • LeBron James, without question. Don't let the media trashing James fool you, through five years, LeBron played better than Durant, and he has never had the talent Durant has been blessed to play with. LeBron is a much better passer, much better defender, and right now, he's a much more efficient scorer.

  • Lebron,

He is the more versatile offensive weapon and light years ahead defensively.

People talk about Durants points but that's all he does his score. Lebron is going to drop 30, give 8 assist (16-20 more points depending if it's a 3 point shot) and going to give you 7-10 boards. Then he can shut down a Derrick Rose type player.

  • I wouldn't be upset with either, but my pick would be LeBron. Durant is younger and a great scorer, but Lebron is too versatile to pass on.
James will average damn near a triple double and his ability to defend the perimeter and the post if needed is extremely valuable. Plus, if one day the switch actually turns on full time for Lebron, I want him on my team for sure.

  • Durant. Sorry all, Lebron is not a killer. I want a killer leading my team. Jordan and Kobe are the ultimate killers and Durant is beginning to take that mantle from Kobe. I want my star player to have the nuts to take that game over and take the last shot. Lebron doesn't do that and won't.

Lebron's potential is Magic, great player but has never been mentioned in the breath of greatest ever.

Durant has the potential to be Kobe or Jordan, among the pinnacle of the greatest to ever play the game.

Lebron certainly looked the part against Boston. This is LeBrons 3rd finals and Durants first. So Durants has a ways to go before be catches up to Lebrons accomplishments. Durant does have a chance to get a ring first, so I will credit him that.

With that, neither have a ring...after the series they will have one between them. They are light years away from the next Kobe, especially Jordan.
The potential may be there, but let's let them be LeBron and Durant first.

  • LBJ and it isn't really close.

And I love Durrant, he is my clear #2.
A bit younger and better kid.

LeBron. Durant is great and I love the guy, but LeBron is a beast, a much better passer, much better defender and as good a scorer...right now. Durant is clearly the better shooter, but that is it. I love watching both guys play and maybe a few years from now Durant's all around game will improve, but from what I've seen it has to be James if you are starting a team from day one.

    Go Buckeyes!!

LeBron (I hate him)...at this point in their careers...I don't know how you can pick honestly pick Durant.

You honestly can't. Lebron is better at every aspect of the game except shooting. His passing and defensive skills are light years above durants. If you are building a team around one guy it's great when that guy is a facilitator.

  • I would go with Durant, and a lot of it has to do with what Kirk said. There is less mileage on the tires so to speak and Durant is a game changer that doesn't demand the ball in his hands ALL the time!

There is something to be said about playing in an offense (like OKC) and actually being the entire offense like LBJ is. I realize KD has more around him than LBJ, but the system where LBJ makes plays because his teammates are "not good" is getting old. LBJ has 2 perrenial all-stars on his team and he still demands the ball WAY TOO MUCH for me.

KD let's the game come to him and doesn't demand the ball majority of the time.

KD is who I would start my team with......

Unfortunately I think LBJ wins the title this year. Just like players in the past (besides Magic Johnson & Tim Duncan) Julius Erving, MJ, Kobe/Shaq----you have to fail before you succeed and LBJ has been there done that in the past.

I'm a Bulls fan and don't hate LBJ like others, looking for an entertaining series!!

Dude...LeQuit has Magic Johnson like passing skills...why the hell would you want the ball in anyone else's hands? I'm giving the ball to LeDouchebag because he will make things happen for not only himself, but his teammates as well

Please do some research. I get so tired of hearing people say Lebron doesn't want the last shot just because he has passed out of one or two double teams. Honestly he has been on teams where the entire defense focused on him and he passed on SOME shots.

However, do some research comparing game winning/tieing shot attempts by Kobe and Lebron since you started the comparison. You will find at this point in his career Lebron has taken more shots than Kobe attempting to tie or win a game with less than 24 seconds on the clock.

Here is another one for you. Lebron has actually made a higher % of those shots than Kobe has in his career.

I am fine with people hating Lebron. I hate players on other teams all the time with no real GOOD reason. I just get tired of people saying he quits on his team (with only being able to point to the Boson series one time) and saying he doesn't want the ball at end of games (pointing to the pass to Marshall).

Hate him because he left your Cavs team. Hate him because of his arrogance. Hate him because well he plays on someone else's team.

Really, did you see him in the Finals last year against Dallas?!?

It hasn't worked for him yet! He's won a bunch of games, but ZERO championships. Let's say KD wins the championship by "LETTING THE GAME" come to him. Then what can you say?!?

And its not 1 fucking time. He passed up the shot in the Indiana series ass fuck. Just because he has taken more could mean he has had more opportunities. Oh and btw, if you really are trying to tell me you would take Lebron over Kobe at the end of a game then you are a complete idiot.

Playmakers, be it by scoring or passing, seem to be best with the ball in their hands. I often think basketball should give assist like hockey. There are many times guys like Lebron make the pass that leads to the assist pass. Those are plays where there is no stat for them, just creating things for teammates.

If Durant wins this year, then I'll be the happiest person in the world. I hate LeNutsack. I love seeing him fail. I hope he misses every shot he takes.

With that said, LeDouchebag is an amazing talent and the best basketball player in the world right now.

As for the finals last year, I remember that LeQuit choked more than anyone else in history -- statistically. What a beautiful thing that was. I can't see how that will help the Thunder this year though.

Is incorrect to say all Durant does is score. He averaged 8 boards a game also and if you watched the Spurs series he created for teammates at the end of game 5 kicking to Harden for a big 3 to win the game and again in game 6. His passing and creating skills have improved. That said, LBJ is still a better passer, defender and all around player, but Durant does more than just score

LBJ can say what he wants how he has a clear conscience and he's happier in his life both on and off the court, but in my opinion (my opinion only) I feel this OKC team is better than last year's Dallas team.

I think what happened to LBJ in the Finals last year will help the Thunder because it puts doubt in his mind. Just my opinion....

What Dallas did last year was great. An ultimate team game. They hit on all cylinders and played like a team who had been together for years.....but they had a lot of veterans.
OKC plays a great team game, but they are young. I'm excited to see how it plays out.

Last year may have been a wake up call to the Heat. They now know they have to play to win the games....just showing up won't work. I think we see a great finals.

My fingers are crossed that you are right. I agree that this OKC team is better than Dallas last year. However, every series presents a new challenge and the best team doesn't always win. I thought the Heat were better than the Mavs last year and look what happened. I am nervous that OKC might not react well in their first finals appearance.

Hahaha..Man someone must be an only child.

I love when people can't argue points so just result to calling names.

The thing about taking a player at the end of the game is that he has to be on your team the whole game to be there at the end of the game. If I had to choose 1 player right now to be on my team, it would be Lebron.

If we are talking careers, I would take Kobe. Why? Because I would want championships and Kobe has them. Championships aren't guaranteed for great players, so even Durant could end up without one.

My EXPECTATIONS though is that I would want Lebron at the end of his career. He is just so versatile in what a coach can do with him.
