Long View: After Further Review ...

Duane slept on it and watched it again. His feelings about the win over Wisconsin have not changed ...

  • Duane, in my "Immediately After the Game Analysis" I commented on the Stoneburner drop early in the game (the sun in the eyes play). I truly believe that was a sunball because Stoney completely whiffed on the ball. I have been all over Stoney in my post game pieces all season. But the pattern for Stoney has been to flub it, but not to whiff on it. He'll drop it, but not completely miss it. That's what I believe it was a sunball.

But I do agree with you that a win is a win. I'll take it anyway I can get it.

  • Stoneburner (stonehands) has been a major disappointment this year ! Miller obviously doesn't like throwing to him , and when he does , the ball is usually on the ground. Also , I see that UFM lost out to Pitt ? for the OTJohnson . How does that happen ? Everybody knows that to be successful at this level , you must have Big Johnson !

  • Giving up 116 yards in the 4th quarter isn't nearly as bad as it sounds when you see that Wisconsin got the ball from the 50 yard line about 5 or 6 times in 4th quarter alone.

I have never seen a team lose the field position battle that badly since the second half of the Sugar Bowl vs Arky.

They only had 3 possessions in the fourth quarter. One possession they had 19 yards so the rest came on the other two possessions.

What are your thoughts on Sat's game? On a scale of 1-10 how confident are you for a Buckeye victory?

  • Duane, good review. My comments after the game on Saturday, what the hell kind of routes are the receivers running? Awful and lacksidasical routes.....not one deep throw...what bothers me more? All the Brax runs and if you're really worried about turnovers, fine, but run Hyde...it's working!!! We have been to slow to start most/many games and I half attributed this to adjustments by Meyer/Herman- but after half time here, no adjustments? Are you kidding me?
Defense, can't complain...did you count how man 3/outs we had in the second half? Our D was tired and not as much subbing on the line...makes Simon's accolades all the more impressive...I can live with the yards due to wearing down against the largest O line we have seen....Never did I figure Shazier to return after that collision, he is growing into an All time Great Buckeye backer before our eyes.
What is most disapointing to me, is the afrorementioned game plan AFTER a frigging BYE WEEK. Should we be scared about Michigan, a better defense than Wisky? Hope Urban earns his check this week and we also see Smith in the backfield, he is going to break a long one soon, hopefully against Scum.

  • When Johnny Football led Texas A&M over "Bama, several times his receivers made good catches, slightly above routine. If Braxton was watching, he must have been envious.

  • I agree 100%. My only comment is that we have seen bits of Tresselball this year. Remember the tendency to run Hyde up the middle in a lot of those early games. Central Fla. and Cal., even in the Big Ten games. That's why the Bucks have been getting off to such slow starts. Herman believes in it and keeps calling a play that doesn't work. Now in many games, the Bucks blew up in the second half, and perhaps that was due to the fact that they kept running that early play. I don't know. But for a mensa guy, he has sure seemed slow in adjusting.

Thankfully, Urban says they have to open things up big time this week. Would love to see this O hitting on all cylinders for all four quarters.

I think running Hyde was one of the only things that worked. I think most on here would argue they should have gone to that more since Brax couldn't get outside.

  • I sure hope we adjust for UM. A couple of deep balls would loosen things up.

  • Duane, this is one of the best follow ups after the Whisky game. From the start I was miffed by hte game plan on offense. Your title says it best. Keep up the good work.

  • The playcalling did have me scratching my head as I watched, particularly when we ran a QB draw the 2nd time, both out of an empty set on 3rd and long. Should have ran Hyde more and Miller less. On our 2nd last possession of the game Buchanan got off a 29 yard punt. On our last possession, which resulted in another punt, I'm thinking that this was an opportunity for Buchanan to atone for the previous punt and he got off another bad one. If he gets off a good punt there the game never goes to overtime.

  • Our Wr's haven't been able to get separation since last season. Hence why we are hovering around 100th in the country in Passing.

  • I think we let field position change our game plan. We had the lead the defense was playing well and it seemed we were always starting 85-90 yards away. I hate playing not to lose. Why JT drove us crazy.
