Marshall Opens Recruitment Back Up

  • Are you kiddin' me? Why verbal then? The older I get and the longer I follow OSU recruiting, the less tolerable I am! Especially, after the recent article on here about "must haves" that we lost and flopped! Hell, just think of the "must haves" we DID get and flopped! You're either with us or not! We'll see who's in next Feb.

We will be just fine lol. Per usual its upgrade time.

I agree. I know you have to cast a wide net, but I was never overly excited about this one. I'm glad that we can now also look around.

  • I'll say it again.

OSU obviously wanted this kid or they would not have taken his commitment.

That said. Regardless of what he does OSU wins. If he comes back to OSU. Win. If he drags this out and selects another school OSU will find an equal talent. Further, this absolutely throws a huge wrinkle in scUM's recruiting. A team like scUM now has to work extra hard and spend more time chasing kids in their own state meaning their bandwidth to chase Ohio kids is reduced.

    OSU wins either way here.

It's sooo early in the process. These are teenagers, many of whom are getting paid special attention fr the first time in their lives.

We have seen what Urban can do... if it's not him.... It' will be someone else.

    Love this post!!!!

  • Guy must be pretty impressionable if he commits to Urb and then decommits a week later after talking to a few other coaches. Happy he decommited now, though, as opposed to dragging the whole thing out.

  • I say pull the kid's offer and move on. Nice player, but no big loss either. We have bigger fish to fry at his position anyways. Make this decision a little easier for him.

  • The dude got all caught up in the emotion. At least we're all in scUM and Spartys ear. Get biting Urban. In Urban I trust.

  • He is 16 or 17 years old and is probably looking forward to a year of being courted and treated special for the first, and maybe the only time, in his life. Give the kid a break! If he becomes a Buckeye, great! If he goes elsewhere I wish him well except when he plays against us.

  • He foulded to "Michigan" pressure....I say this..unless a kid really wants to be a Buckeye...who cares?....todays youth think nothing of not keeping their word or committments....let him go and move on......better to do that right now than have it like the punter who comitted and waited many months till signing day and said "see ya"!

  • The Marshall kid is a goofball. But what 16 year old isn't? Damon Webb will be next.

Getting commits from two star players -- who live in the shadow of D'Antonio's towering ego and Hoke's monstrous man-boobs -- and expecting them to hold fast for 12 months is a little naive.

'We are attacking that like animals right now.'

    AAStagg

  • Exactly what I was thinking after he committed. Bottom line, he isnt gonna find a better place in the Big Ten, so if he ends up at Meatchicken, its only because of the pressure to stay in state. He might still end up with us, but it was a pretty quick comittment from an out of state player, especially one from Meatchicken.

  • I hate seeing a kid commit and decommit three days later. Do not commit in the first place. That being said I think we survive somehow:) The ONLY reason i was happy about getting him was so he could convince the other two ichigan kids to come to state.

  • I can't believe some of the posts on this board...we're stacked on the DLine...it's not like this kid would play anytime soon....and does anyone seriously doubt Coach Meyer won't land someone ranked even higher?

  • I agree. "Marshall is the country’s No. 246 overall 2014 prospect, the No. 14 weak-side defensive end, and the No. 6 prospect in Michigan." I'm sorry but with all the big time recruits we're in on we can do a lot better than this guy anyway...especially with a somewhat limited number of schollies next year.

  • I am happy we have the master flipper for sure, and I know they are "just kids" but certainly I also have to say I hate how recruits do this. Turning off my recruiting ticker for a few months. Once we start winning again and tOSU is kicking ass week in and week out, the recruits will start falling like bowling pins.

Webb being a MI kid does not make for a similar outcome. Webb is a Buckeye fan and is a 'speed' player that naturally favors OSU's approach compared to those MI schools.

Webb has classmates the year below him who are also very high on tOSU.

Marshall was thought to favor 1. USC 2. TTUN 3. MSU and he commits to tOSU. He was labeled as a 'must get' by TUN's 247 writer. That fact that tOSU remains a front runner and forces Hoke and Dantonio to play a little recruiting D is fine by me!

  • It's literally comical how agog some people get by a decision a 16-17 year old kid makes......

I do not envy these kids. Between all the attention, glommers, getting called all the time.....it has to be overwhelming.

I would rather he change his mind now vs. later down the road but at the end of the day we are solid regardless. I would not want a kid to come here if he is not 100% certain.

I am sure he will figure it out.

  • I heard the only reason Marshall committed to OSU was because he had a talk with Ondre Pipkins, and Pipkins told him he (Pipkins) would be playing all of the defensive line positions simultaneously by himself at both AACC and MSU for the next several years due to extended eligibilty, and that Marshall wouldn't have any chance to see the field at a Michigan Big10 school until Pipkins graduated with several doctoral degrees. Talks with both Coach Dantonio and Fred Flintstone straightened him out and changed the situation.

At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought.

  • The kid can't handle the pressure of being in a big time organization. If he wants to play for a lesser team, let him.... Its no big deal

DE is the one position that has a huge number of high quality recruits each year. Just look at the number in Ohio in 2012 (amazing). IMO, it is because DE is a catch-all position. Too small or light to be DT's, and too slow or big to be LB's. Even former TE's, QB's, FB's, and Safeties end up there. All American DE Eric Kumerow (Bosa's uncle) was a converted QB at OSU.
