Mayor Coleman wants a NBA Team!!

  • My concerns, and please I don't want to be negative here...I have lived in Columbus all of my 73-1/2 years and this town usually has the same pattern wiht pro sports teams, and has in the past....1) the initial honeymoon, and nothing could be finer. great crowds and fans..2) the 2nd tier where its nice, ..crowds are ok, but wins are key, but nothing is really happening,3) things are gettin stale, crowds falling off, team losing money, bottom rung teams, 4) team is a bottom feeder, or close. can't win for losing, crowds slim to none, no mon-no fun...etc...

..it happened to semi-pro football,(Columbus Colts) arena football,(played at Nationwide) AAA baseball(Red (Dead)Birds, Jets, etc) pro basketball played at Fair-ground arena, etc...unfortuantely this town wants a winner.......Blue Jackets and Columbus Crew beware.....once the wins stop(and they have wiht the BJ,s) the hand writing is on the wall,,,,sure a pro basketball team would be great......but if not a winner..its just a matter of time here in Columbus......

OSU was ranked as a top 10 team all season and played Duke at home. That has quite a bit to do with attendence. Not to mention that the cost of NBA versus college bball is like 5 to 1. I had OSU season tickets and trust me when I tell you, other than the few marquee games, the Schott wasnt busting at the seams. Columbus is and will always be a Buckeye town. Theres nothing wrong with that. The NBA thing has zero percent chance of happening so let it go. If Cbus was to ever get another pro team (which they wont) it wouldnt be a sport that has overlapping seasons. It doesnt make financial sense in that market. In the meantime, maybe you could go on ebay and find an old Ohio Glory tshirt to hold you over. Perhaps google a few more stale "mistake by the lake" jokes. Of course there is always the Columbus Crew and the Oletangy Riverfront Santa Maria replica ship. Fun.

  • @Viv...Joakim Noah is your city guide? Id bet he couldnt even find Columbus on a map. As for Boozer leaving, Im pretty sure the $84 million dollars he got had something to do with going to Utah. I understand Columbus having an inferiority complex and being jealous of its big brother Cleveland but lets remember we are all Ohioans. Trust me, Clevelander arent "anti" Columbus like some of you seem to be because Ctown actually doesnt think too much about Cowlumbus. Cleveland feels about Columbus like Ohio State cares about Iowa. They know Columbus exists but dont really care enough to think twice about it. Hope that sums it up.

Yup.....columbus will never have the pleasure of consistently being named one of the most miserable cities in the country. Cleveland sucks. I would take Cincinnati or Columbus any day over Cleveland. But who knows if Cleveland can get an nfl team maybe it will be better up there. The local heroes can't even wait to leave.

Thats because nobody notices, or cares about it. Look I love Columbus. But i always found it hilarious how central Ohio natives have this distorted view of the areas importance. And your post reeks of unnecessary anger. Clevelanders never think or speak that way about Columbus. Its like little brother syndrome. I feel sorry for you.

  • Not anger man......humor. I honestly can't think of one reason to be jealous if Cleveland for. Cleveland is like notre same football. Hasn't been relevant in years but their fans still think people want to be like them. There is a reason they have lost around 10% of their population since 2000.

No one from Cleveland ever though anyone else wanted to be like Clevelanders. See this is the problem. You don't know what you're talking about.

From my contacts,A lot of people who live in Cleve now is suffering and can't wait to get to Columbus.

Thats the typical Columbus attitude. I love the people from central ohio who have never even been to Cleveland that jump all over it. Face it, Columbus is a minor league town that most people outside of central Ohio couldnt locate on a map. Take away OSU and Cbus is Zanesville. You get kids from little farm towns who go to OSU and see Cbus as some mega city with nothing to compare it to. There is more to do in downtown Cleveland on a Tuesday than in a weekend in Columbus. The best thing Columbus has is OSU, an over abundance of fast food restaurants and shopping malls. There is no history, no real neighborhoods, museums, etc.. The 5 years I lived there were the longest 5 years of my life. Rip on Cleveland all you want, small town hicks from Columbus couldnt handle living in Cleveland anyway so its best you stay south. Columbus is a nothing to anybody outside of Columbus. Keep dreaming, no pro teams are coming to Columbus. As for "local heroes" leaving, couldnt we say the same thing when a central Ohio kid leaves Columbus for Michigan University? Dont be a fool. Id also like to point out that a city with a team as bad as the BlueJjackets shouldnt really be criticizing ANY team as far its ability to win.

What???? When I lived in Cowtown USA it was the opposite. We would all go to Cleveland or Cincy for fun off campus. It should tell you something that NONE of my "contacts" from OSU still live in Columbus. Quite possibly the lamest city in the country when it comes to fun. Unless of course you enjoy the hillbillies in the empty Arena District bars or the wanna be millionaires snobs running around the Short North. I rest my case. Go check out East 4th or the Warehouse District in Cleveland. A thousand times better.

When you see a 10% population rate drop, youre looking at the actual city limits of Cleveland. If you had any idea what you were talking about you would know that most older cities are very small in comparison to cities like Columbus that annex hundreds of square miles and count it as the city population. Using Columbus math, Columbus is bigger than Boston. Cleveland is but a small fraction of ONE COUNTY surrounded by suburbs. Columbus on the other hand stretches into a couple different counties. If you really want to compare the two cities, look at the metro area. Cleveland is right around 2.8 million. Columbus is about 1.7 million. Hate to burst your bubble but go ahead and look it up. I wouldnt want facts to actually interfere with your love affair with Hicktown, USA.
