Dog I'm not arguing with you Cleveland is losing people based on the chart. I personally am very familiar with all 3 cities and love them all. Each has its strengths and weaknesses. Now you want to talk about a crap hole let's discuss Toledo LOL

Columbus math? I dont usually cite Wikipedia as a legit source, but since thats where you want to gather information lets actually compare apples to apples.(see below). BTW, I LOVE how you are counting a TWELVE county region in the CSA of Cbus(stretching all the way to Knox and Morrow Counties) but only 4 counties when you cite Clevelands population. Thats typical though of Columbus, only count the greater number when it applies to Cbus. Anybody who argues that Columbus is as widely recognized as Cleveland (or Cincinnati for that matter) is completely out of tune with reality. Outside of Franklin County people will laugh in your face when you start mentioning Columbus as a cultured and important city. Mind you it would be right after they asked you where Columbus Ohio is located.

"The larger Cleveland-Akron-Elyria Combined Statistical Area is the 14th-largest Combined Statistical Area in the United States, and includes the above counties plus Ashtabula County, Portage County and Summit County, with a population of 2,881,937.

The Cleveland-Akron-Canton television Designated Market Area covers this area, and all of Northeast Ohio except for the Youngstown/Warren region. It is the 16th largest in the United States, according to Nielsen Media Research. Changes in house prices for Greater Cleveland are publicly tracked on a regular basis using the Case–Shiller index; the statistic is published by Standard & Poor's and is also a component of S&P's 20-city composite index of the value of the U.S. residential real estate market"

Why dont you just claim the entire Midwest as Columbus and then go tell New Yorkers that Columbus is the largest city in the US?

Dude your beef isn't with me I just cited some stats. I am not counting anything. I cited wiikki because it is easier to understand than the US Census website, which is where they got their numbers. So I guess you can take your argument to the US Census Bureau. They obviously are measuring things differently than you are. It would be good to link where you are getting your info.

  • I love giving cleveland people shit. They have a insecure arrogance about them. They know the bad name that their city has had but have a ton of pride in their city and it is a great trait. I am a Cincy guy so it is fun.

The truth is that Columbus is just a different city than Cincinnati or Cleveland. It is better organized due to relatively young infrastructure that has allowed better city planning. Much of that is also that that both Cincinnati and Cleveland have geographic boundaries that columbus does not.

Cleveland took a huge it with manufacturing losses but has been impressive lately with their reemergence. If you have been to cleveland in the last 10 years it is a much nicer place. Much like Cincinnati is growing into a much nicer place downtown. Sometimes it takes a population decline to build it back up. Cincinnati is seeing a huge population growth this year inside the city.

I love columbus and think that the suburbs of columbus blow away Cincinnati and cleveland, but Columbus doesn't have the culture of the other two. It isn't even close in my opinion.

  • Shaun, I dont live in Cleveland and havent in 20 years. Ive lived in Seattle, San Francisco and San Diego. Ive yet to find anybody who hasnt heard of Cleveland. In fact a small percentage think Ohio State is IN Cleveland. My point is that Cleveland and Cincy have national reputations and Columbus does not. When I was an undergrad at OSU I remember the city of Columbus mounting a drive so that USA Today would include them on the "weather page" of the newspaper. Talk about insecurity. What other city does that? I love Cleveland and Cincy but Columbus is full of cookie cutter phonies driving around in leased Lexus' and living in little houses made to look old who (for some reason) think they are the center of the US. Its the same bunch that will tell you theyd rather have an MLS team rather than an NFL team because the Browns suck. The same idiots who will yap about the Cavaliers being bad and ignoring that the Blue Jackets are possibly the worst franchise in the history of the NHL. I was in Cleveland last March for the NCAA Tournament and let me tell you, the East 4th Street development kicks the snot out of anything Columbus OR Cincy has. Its generally people who have never been to NE Ohio who rip it and have nothing to base it on other than what theyve heard from 1970's newspaper clippings. The great thing about America is that you dont have to live in Cleveland and I dont have to live in Columbus. We can agree to disagree. At least we can agree on one thing and that's "Go Bucks!"

@Cool, I also got those statistics from Wiki as that was the source you cited. The difference is that I actually read what the numbers meant. You were looking at a chart that compared the 12 county area of Columbus with the 4-5 county area of Cleveland. When you compare the CSA (cumulative statistics) you get a more accurate picture of the region. If you continued to read you would also see that much of Columbus' population gains have come through annexing more land over the past several years. Columbus is now over 270 square miles versus Cleveland which is 77 square miles. One day Columbus will likely have a larger metro area but by then it will probably claim Pittsburgh, the entire state of West Virginia, Toledo and possible even Detroit as suburbs.

How about Cleveland and Columbus just swap teams? Cavaliers for the Blue Jackets?

I bet pro hockey does better in Cleveland than it ever did in C-bus, and the Cavaliers could use a fresh start.

This is about the most sensible logic presented yet, IMO.
