Megatron Gets $132 Million Over 7 Years.

  • That is 18.85 million per year. He is a great player but if you ask me the Lion just screwed themselves. When you pay one guy that much it means you are inevitably going to have to let a lot of quality veterans leave because they can't afford them. Vincent Jackson and Desean Jackson have great numbers and just got new deals for $11 million per. Is Calvin Johnson really $8 million per year better than those two?

  • I have no idea how the deal is structured or how it would affect the salary cap. I do know that some team would give him that money whether it was the Lions or Not. They needed to lock up their guy and had to pay the price.

    Personally, I am a fan of not paying a WR that much

  • I am a Lions fan and I am glad the deal is done. Call me a homer if you want but Stafford and Johnson have the potential to be special together for the next 10 years. We have to have those guys locked up.

    The Lions have done a lot of restructuring and are banking on a big salary cap increase in 2014 with the new TV deals. That will be the only way to keep Stafford, Johnson, and Suh and have any sort of talent around them. This is the price of having so many high picks pre rookie wage scale, but they are all too good to let slip away.

    yes. He is that much better. He's fast, young, enormous, and has great hands. The other two guys are among the best receivers in the game. Johnson is hands down, no doubt, the best receiver in football. I don't even think it's close. He lead the league in yards, 40+ completions, 20+ completions. It's a lot of cash, but I think he's worth it.

    What's funny is how that's kinda garbage money for a player of his status and caliber in MLB that will have a career at least twice as long. You would think, since NFL is king, that they would pay these guys better.

    I understand salary caps and all but...

    If you have players like this risking the ability to walk, talk, and even live on a day to day basis, and you want them to give that kind of effort, then you have to pay them accordingly.

    yeah he is a different animal and really no one compares to him.

  • He is nothing in comparison to Jerry Rice. If there is one who deserve that kind of money, its Jerry. Jerry makes Calvin like a peewee kid.

    So, yes, Lions overpaid.

  • dudes a beast.. 4.3 42 in vert is insane at that size. Draft him to your fantasy team next year in a ppr league. Guarantee you will think he should be gettin more than that after the season

  • Great move in Detroit... By far the most dominating player in the entire NFL. No other player can dominate his position and create mismatches the way he can. Lion fans should be rejoicing. Its an 8 year deal not 7... and his contract actually frees up cap space because its not all up front and gives the team options to move money around. If the Lions wouldnt have given him that money, someone else would have...
