Meyer: Hall Doubtful For Nebraska

While I'm glad C.J. Barnett is healthy, can we leave Orhian Johnson in when we play man coverage? OJ is lost in the zone but he's been night and day compared to where he was last year while Barnett wasn't impressive before he was hurt.

Never thought I'd make a post calling for more Orhian Johnson......

Can't do that because it would lead to us giving away our coverage.

"Oh look, Johnson is in so we know its going to be man".

But I agree. He does a lot better in man coverage where he can rely on his athleticism rather than his head.

Sabino is having a very good year! I suggest that they play him at MLB every once in awhile, or maybe more than that, and play one or more of the young guys at OLB when they move Sabino inside. Also would like to see more of Williams at MLB. We need to shut down the over the middle passes. and get more pass rush.

While Sabino had his best game as a Buckeye lets not get too carried away as he is still a liability in coverage. Sparty had their biggest success over the middle passing so while Williams is a nice change of pace on third downs there is no reason to make a wholesale change. We really just need Grant to get his sh#t together so Storm can become a sideline cheerleader

Yes, PCL. No big deal with that. They should just brace it and let him go. They don't do surgery for PCLs. ACL would be much worse diagnosis.

An isolated, partially torn PCL is a relatively minor injury. painful, but there shouldn't be significant instability, unless the MRI is misread and the PCL is completely torn. Many athletes function well with completely torn PCLs. Partial tears (like TP's), can be dealt with on the field, but the joint effusion (swollen knee with increased fluid) and pain may limit explosiveness, which is key to Hall's game.

He'll play soon, once the swelling goes down, but he won't be the same player for a while.

According to what Meyer said he didn't tear anything...just a strain which is why he is week to week

  • With Hall out, how do you Buckeyes see your offense affected? Can't say I'm too familiar with your depth. Will Hall's replacement be any significant difference from what you have with Hall in?

Replacement is Carlos Hyde, who started most of this year's games and some of last year's. Michigan State couldn't stop him the last 5 minutes of Saturday's game, but some of that was the offensive line play. Very good hands, good receiver, excellent blocker. He goes about 232, a big fast powerful back. Not as elusive as Hall. So significantly different, but in my opinion there won't be any drop off in effectiveness. Effectiveness for me means score differential, not yards gained or yards differential or points scored.

Nebraska fans have always been among the most gracious in the country. Nice to see you posting.

  • I should have also said that the backup RB, Rod Smith, is another big fast power runner, similar to Hyde. But we may not see much of anyone other than Hyde.

  • ohchiro - has it dead on. I tore my knee up and learned all to well what each ligament does and the rehab process.
