Meyer Lists Post-Spring Depth Chart

“If he can get in shape, he has a chance to play here,” Carter said.

Assuming that's a slip and should have been attributed to Fickell but may apply regardless of who said it

That was Meyer and Dave fixed that for me when he added some new stuff to the original story. Thanks, Dave and to mjoeb as well. I was off my game today.

Interesting to see Storm as a backup.

He missed all of spring ball, he needs to earn his spot in the fall. That will be good competition. They want more out of Grant there, too.

Surprised Bennett isn't getting the nod over Bellamy...he was solid in the spring game.

Yes, agreed. Meyer saiid Bennett may as well be considered a starter.

Who else would it be a knock on then? Drayton coached WR's for one season. Hell, I think he coached the WR's for only 8 months, if that. You don't become unprepared as a unit overnight. Hazell coached that unit for years.

Hazell hardly had any time with any of the current receivers. The facts bear out this team should be leaning on Carter, James Jackson and James Louis at receiver right now and all 3 washed out. There's a gap in the WR recruiting. That's the problem, not anybody's coaching.

Is the Adam Griffin, listed as a second team DB, Archie' son? Just wondering because if so a lot of people poohpoohed his offer as undeserved. I for one am fine with Archie's son getting a schollie if he never sees the field, but if he has played onto the two-deep then even better.

Likewise many wanted TheMeyer to pull Luke Roberts' offer before signing day, and now he is listed as a second team LB already.

I don't make judgements about recruiting beyond what the national ratings say (and because I know less about football than most of you guys) and I treat them as suspect - I put my trust in the staff - Tress or TheMeyer - to know what they are doing.

September can't get here soon enough!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, that is Archie's son. He is a bit smallish, but a good competitor. I'd look for him mostly on specials. Doran Grant is the third corner if anything happens to either starter.

Agreed on Roberts. They were banged up. He made it through spring when others did not, stuck his nose in there and surprised some people. Had Meyer been the coach from end of 2010 on, he probably doesn't have a spot (cuz' they're going national now, if you haven't caught on). But he did well this spring and is in the running.

I can't believe how bare JT left the cupboard on offense.

I can't stand that phrase. Maybe it's true but it's so full of excuse. The guys on our offense were recruited by some of the best D1 schools around and yes they are struggling or haven't produced as advertised but the cupboard is bare line drives me up a wall. No offense to you OSUmidwest.

Next to Hankins...Bennett is the best DT ! I'm a bit surprised Goebel is starting instead of Bennett. I believe it's likley Bennett will get more PT or even supplant Goebel in the front 4...

Recruiting and eventually signing guys who actually pan out (read NOT busts) and are good fits for the program is also a huge part of coaching. Let's not act like he's some innocent bystander regarding having some missing pieces at he WR position.

Stan Drayton has been the WR coach for a couple of years, now moved back to his traditional role as RB coach. He coached with Meyer at FL and I believe left while Meyer was still there to take a similar position - parallel move. I think those facts are accurate, but I could be mistaken. I wonder if there is any "friction" between Meyer and Drayton, and if that explains the somewhat insulting reference to the WRs being the most unprepared group he has ever seen. That was a coaching indictment, not a reflection on the players only...

Being truthful we were damn near the worst passing team in the nation! !!! WOW, ARE YOU KIDDING ME?

Tressel: Well, you know, we got some work to do in that area, they are working hard, we have some speed, new routes to learn, you know, and until they figure it out, we will just run Dave, you know.

  • DL depth..pinch me I'm dreaming. And this before the frosh come in.
DB depth needs a little shoring up. Surprised to see Josh Perry third off the bench. I've got great expectations for him.

  • That extra wide receiver and playing 12 versus 11 should really help.
