Meyer Rumor Mill Running Full Bore

  • bengalbux said...

In the end, its time for a change and Bollman is gone. Hopefully...

Bollman will depart as one of the most disliked coaches in Ohio State History. A poop slinging monkey could do better. That said, who wouldn't want to be the next Offensive Coordinator at Ohio State? People are gonna compare next years offense to this years - the guy will look like a frickin genius!

What if Foley is a part of a package deal and Meyer says he won't come back til 2013? In my opinion no problem. Give Urban what he wants. Keep Fickell one more year. I know that sounds like a bad idea but hears a thought. Fickell has to get new assistants. He asks Urban who he wants so they can install the offense and defense. It makes sense for Urban that the players would be experienced in his offense. It would help fickell set up OSU and if he wins games he could get a job elsewhere following the season. The recruits during 2012 would know who the next coach would be. I doubt any of this happens but it's interesting to think about

This man has the plan. Think big picture.

  • That's goofy talk. If Fickell was worthy enough to have that kind of control and be successful at it, just keep him and save yourself $5 million per year. Just pay Meyer a $100K advisor's fee ...

It would be yet another wasted year, only a self-imposed one. Besides, if it was successful, and it wouldn't be, we'd have people screaming Luke should remain. Luke's old teammates on the radio shows are screaming for him to keep the job now. We have seen this team stagger to 6-5 and there are fans here who insist Luke should keep the job now, too, for crying out loud.

It's now or never. If Urban doesn't want it now, hello Bo Pelini

  • All I know is Urban owes us three national titles.

One for the 2006 title he cost us to get back to even, and then two for what he should win for the money and talent he will get here in a lowly big ten.

Really though, he will be coming in with the highest expectations of any coach in the history of college football, followed by Saban going to Bama, who has meeting them.

I mean is it not two national titles or bust within 5-7 years? I think it can be done, but my goodness, he has to at least match what Tressel did, and exceed them to be considered a success at this point. Unreal..

Buckeye Nation will have a serious meltdown if somehow this falls through...
All the eggs are in the Urban basket...

He will be coming in already larger than life and will be bigger than the school and program itself, like JoePa, Saban, etc. Which is one of our societal problems that results in the problems we see in various programs right now.

Donations, ticket demand, apparel etc. will likely exceed the dollars that even Tress was even to bring in at its programs peak based on excitement and expectations alone. Tress had to earn that rep. Urban already has it. The anxiety is palpable.

Lastly, he will be able do what only Pete Carroll was able to in his tenure ( saban is maybe there), and that is truly recruit nationally and compete for any kid in the country. I am mostly looking forward to a fence around Ohio being patched up and rendering Hoke and scUM to another decade of irrelevance. Especially with the instate talent available the next two years.

  • Obviously the rumor mill is running way past over time if Meyer had to use a timeout in a game he was calling to deny he has been offered the OSU job. This reminds me of when Harbaugh said no to MIchigan, and we all know what happened to them. This sure sounds like a RichRod type of situation.

  • Luke Fickell is a great man. It is a shame that we may lose him after next week! I wish him nothing but the best and I hope that, if he is not retained as HC or DC after this season, he someday will return as HC in the future. No HC at any school has had to deal with as much adversity, none of which was of his own creation. He is a great man and a great Buckeye!

People will blame Fickell/Bollman next year before they blame Tressel if we have another bad year

It is there fault Bollman has to go down as the worst OC in the history of Ohio state. Fickell's defense has stunk it up a few times and blown a few games too. Urban would be a huge upgrade in my opinion. He more than likely has alot more contacts in florida and his name will bring in national recruits . I do wonder what if he dose go 8 -4 next year will the national recruits want to come here still?

I agree with most of this but PSU did not beat us...we beat ourselves.

It wasn't PSU that fumbles...snapped the ball bad...dropped 50 yard passes that hit them in the number...that called a horrible hame...false starts that screw our 4th down play...

The tackling was atrocious. If Tyler Moeller tackles like he did today against Michigan we get beat by 21+....the team as a whole better tackle like they did against Wisconsin or it will get ugly.

The coaches and the seniors lost this game. Brewster had his worst game of his career IMO.

And coaching has nothing to do with our performance? The teams focus on the game? Give me a freaking break.

I've seen nothing to prove the fact LF will ever be a decent Head Coach. Team is unprepared and unmotivated as evidenced by getting skunked in Qtr.1 10-0 in last 3 games nor being able to hold a lead (Neb). The most important decision a HC has to make (starting QB). Epic fail letting Bollman make that decision.

Meyer lacks the ethical and moral characteristics we should demand from a HC. It will be interesting to listen to his lovers explain away the problems he will create and the excuses he will give. It seems too many are willing to sell their souls to the devil for a NC. Be careful what you wish for.

And how was Tressel a saint?

OSU is in this mess because of him

The only positive I can see is as you stated with Saban setting a precedent of matching high expectations.

But to catch lightning in the bottle - I don't know.

Saban didn't sit out for a year or quit coaching for health reasons. Saban wasn't a fit for the pro game, which is okay because I hate the pro game, but he was in coaching when Alabama got him.

Meyer is in the broad cast booth, and let's face it, we don't know what demons are running around in his head. He quit Florida twice and came back the first time under suspect circumstances. I am not saying there is something wrong with Meyer. What I am saying is the consistency Saban displayed translated into a consistent coaching philosophy and he wanted to get back to college coaching and picked a team that was ready for him and Alabama sucked for a lot of years before Saban arrived and their fan base was more than ready for Saban.

OSU, on the other hand, has been more successful than any other time in their history. Our fan base is used to winning recently and expects that to continue and the pressure will be immense. Is Meyer ready for this after his health issues? Is his family ready for this?

If Meyer does come to OSU, will he some how have repaired what ailed him at Florida to the point he will be committed 100% to OSU? I think his wife might have something to say about that and that might not be a good thing for him or OSU.

Saban's situation when he took the Alabama job was more positive than what Meyer faces. Meyer stated reasons for quitting Florida were health reasons and because he wanted to spend time watching his kids grow up. How will he reconcile his family issues? Saban didn't have those issues.

So for lightning to be captured in the OSU bottle seems like the odds are higher than what Saban faced when he went to Alabama.

Take this for what you will. But what I have heard from a co-worker, whose wife is very close to Urban's wife (they went to school together and were roomates for awhile) is that it is true he left Florida for health reasons. However, the health issues were stress related. Supposedly, he knew saw all the rule bending and breaking (ie: oversigning, greyshirting, cutting players, backroom hand shakes) that was going on in the SEC and knew that he could not stay competitive for an extended perion of time with out resorting to the same measures.

Like I said, take it for what it is worth. I am not stating that it is fact. It is just something I heard from a pretty credible source. (this same guy told me that there was no way Urban was going to ND when everyone thought he was. He also knew Urban was going to Florida a week before it came out.)

Apples and oranges. Penn State didn't lose their starting QB and then spend several games trying to figure out who would take his place. Penn State didn't lose their starting RB or #1 WR either. Sorry, but your point seems to fade away after taking those facts into consideration.

We lost them well before the season started.

I'll cut anyone who was coaching them at the beginning of the year slack for that. But the team and coaching staff have not improved as the season has gone by.

Can't keep using that as an excuse after 11 games.

There is no way for you to expect this coaching staff to not be effected by the unusual circumstances they had to face this year. Very unreasonable.

Change is inevitable at coaching because of the impact of losing Tressel. No matter what these coaches did they were lame duck from the beginning. Their only chance was to go undefeated with second and third stringers. Pretty poor odds.

Life goes on but I respect these guys for staying and trying to hold the fort down.

Agree that they would be affected as you note.

What I'm saying is that at some point you would expect them improvement - even in the losses. Have not seen that. And they have been outcoached and outplayed on several occasions by teams with less talent

Give 1 example to back up your claim. I used to think I didn't like Meyer cause I thought he "looked" arrogant. Then I hear him speak and he is nothing but polite, direct and very complimentary. If he is such a bad apple, why would the likes of Spielman & Earle Bruce be so close to him????? Aren't they character guys?

Because some folks can't get over the 41-14 beat down he put on OSU and Tressel a few years ago

  • I think the measure of a coach's ability and a determination of how good a job he is doing is reflected in whether his team's play is getting better as the year progresses. I thought Tressel's teams got better every year. That was the JT trademark, they always improved. This year is just the opposite.I can excuse the Bauserman experiment because you have a senior that is 25 versus a true freshman. However, the one constant in Columbus has been a stout defense. I have seen this defense deteriorate to a new low this year and that is painful. I don't know what the future holds for Luke but this year has indelibly stamped him as "Not ready for prime time". I live and die with the Bucks and can say for the record the Livin' is way more fun than dyin". Hope we get a coach the can add some spice to the offense but never forget that defense wins championships. Finally, please, no more referrals to the success that Dickrod was starting to get. That just makes your post seem like the delirious rambling of an Ann Arbor crackhead that is disassociated from reality.
