Meyer To Make Big Pitch For WR

The Bucks offered James Clark last week. Tomorrow Urban Meyer will be in Florida making his pitch for Clark to make an official visit to OSU this weekend rather than Florida.

  • The WRs for this class really are up in the air right now. I thought we were looking pretty solid with a few WRs then all of a sudden *BAM* everything got upended and we're looking for a solid Wideout and the music is getting ready to stop. I hope we're not left standing without a true wideout. (although the class is really very good as it stands)

  • Urban is on the attack Its going to be interesting to see whom our last 3 guys will be. Wilson, ,Smith ,Clarke, Elder, we will see soon.!!!

  • I wonder if it's because of our depth chart? We have a lot of bodies but only a couple of playmakers and id think our WR recruiting would be better.

  • What is the Smails kids role in trying to alleiviate the Chines Fire Drill otherwise known as OSU wr recruiting.

  • I think all the coaches have landed some good kids except Zach Smith. That's just speculation and I don't know for sure but it always seems like you hear about Meyer, Herman, Coombs, Withers, Warriner, and Hinton convincing guys to come to OSU. Who has Smith landed? Maybe he's to blame for the WR problems.

  • why are you trying to place blame? Your team just went 12 and 0, you now have a top 5 recruiting class and you are trying to place blame because a 18 year old choose to stay close to mommy. Can you really say in January that there are problems with the wr recruiting. I think that complaint should be held for at least 11 months. We shall see how they perform during the season.

  • Bill do you see us pulling in two of these wide outs, one or none?

Just one receiver, Reed, who had returned from a knee injury and saw a collection of younger players ahead of him on the depth chart.

There is another receiver potentially in Fields but he is in the same boat, being older and without a starting spot.

Besides Fields OSU has 4 WR's (Smith, Brown, Spencer, Thomas) and one WR/P/S in Frankie E.

So it's as much a lack of bodies as it is lack of playmakers.

  • What does recruiting for last year and 2013 have to do with OSU being 12-0? Was I complaining about the team? If so I missed that part. I am placing blame because I see a lot of the other coaches seem to be well connected in landing some top recruits but I haven't noticed the same for Zach Smith. I'm entitled to an opinion and I hold the WR coach accountable for recruiting WRs.

  • It seems that many are in a panic because we are looking at so many receivers here at the end and assuming that we will not get one. I can see it now when we do, there will be those that say we did not get the one the staff really wanted.

To me this appears to be more a function of our limited scholarships. If we had 85 instead of 82 the staff could have handled this position differently. Plus, the type of receiver that we are trying to recruit (i.e. more of a slot) limits the top possibilities. Will Urban and the staff get "the one" they wanted? Maybe, maybe not. However, it wouldn't be the first time either way. But whoever it is they will most likely be highly rated. The key is will they pan out.

Then you are ignorant in how recruiting WORKS. Position Coaches don't recruit their position. Coaches Recruit Territories. They recruit any kid regardless of position in their area that they are assigned to recruit. Most of the time position coaches won't see these kids until they are on visits to the school. In some cases near the end of the recruiting cycle you will have Position coaches go out on the road to visit the specific kid they really want in the class.

As for Herman, Fickel and Withers on the road and hearing about them and recruits, well you damn well should as they are the O and D coordinators. They are the ones that determine how kids are used in the schemes and if I was being recruited they are the ones i would want to hear from the most.

You are the ignorant one if you don't think position coaches are not keenly involved in the recruiting of their positions.
    They are.
Even if you are not equipped to deal with that then I'm sure you understand that recruits value their position coach in the decsion making pantheon very highly.

Aside for the HC the prospective recruits postion coach is the most vital member of the staff in a recruits mind.
