Meyer Upbeat Headed Into Big Ten (with press conference video)

OSU coach Urban Meyer said Monday this could still be "a hell of a football team" before the end of the season. The Buckeyes open Big Ten play Saturday at Michigan State.

  • I suppose that they have to give offensive player of the game to someone other than Miller sometimes. But Miller was the offense in that game. As soon as they started running the ball with him, they were able to
Move it. My guess is they were protecting Miller and hoping they could and should move the ball through someone else other than miller. That didn't happen as expected. Hall did run well though.

  • It's apparent Smith can only catch the long ball. Dunn has no business returning kicks. Buchanon needs to go, what a stiff. I tired of the 35 yard no hang time punts! Lets throw the short slant patterns on 2nd down and come up with some creativity on third.
Luke better be checking the OBES for services in January! Frickin UAB...wow

  • To me as Hall started to get some gains on the ground, it seemed the passing game opened up a bit. They showed glimpses of their potential... Excited to see how they grow this year.

  • Of the whole presser I was waiting for the last question to be asked and Myer gave me the nugget I was waiting for as he stated, "There's some people that gotta make some choices and do a better job in a lot of areas and get some young players experience." I was waiting for someone to catch the reply and ask who are these "some people," and what "choices" do they have to make? Staff feel free to respond as to what Myer was actually saying.

  • I don't want to be, but I'm really worried about MSU this week. LB ran for 253 last week.

There is ONE similarity to MSU and OSU though. BOTH have one-dimentional offenses. With OSU = Miller. MSU = Bell. If we can shut Bell down, and force them to pass, one of two things will happen. The QB will have a career day or we'll have 3-4 interceptions this week. They ARE going to key on Miller, so we'll have to do something to shut that off real quick like quick passes to the sideline and slants. If their LBs and safeties cheat up, Drop back and go deep.

Meyer is the head coach....its his damn team. If he wants something changed, then tell the coaches to do so. There shouldn't be a coaching struggle. Its not like Meyers says to the coordinators on Monday "have a good week of practice, hope you do something I like Saturday.... see you guys then."
They practice together, they game plan together ....make it work.

  • Against Sparty, I hope we play some press coverage and throw some blitzes in b/c I don't think Maxwell has the ability to beat us with arm.

I also think Braxton needs to have some designed runs called on this first drive b/c that seems to call him down and he gets in more of a rhythm. They also needs to call some quick high % throws. I like taking the deep shot early, but we need to set that up with some play-action.

  • obviously there is a difference between "probable," "very probable," and " will play.". Can somebody put a percentage on the 1st 2 conditions? And, Meyer did not really sound too positive about Bennet playing.

  • Sometimes I think the team plays too fast.

  • I actually thought Rod Smith looked pretty good at RB Sat. I would like to see him get more carries and see J Hall out in the slot.

I thought Meyer said that Bennet should play? I may be wrong but I thought Meyer actually sounded positive about Bennet playing.

MSU's QB will have a career day and you can take that to the bank. Based on what we've seen so far from this defense this year, how could anybody come to a reasonably different conclusion? MSU may not win the game, but statistically, their QB will have his best game of the year.

  • I'm curious about what additional things Fickell will do Defensively and Meyer will do Offensively now that we're in conference play.

From the offensive side I know that we haven't seen even half of the play book.
