Michigan Spring Game: Explains a lot....

  • Just watched the Michigan Spring Game. To me it explains a lot.

The good. I think Michigans Defensive coordinator is a very, very good coach. Second, I think Hoke has done a very, very good job of easing into his more preferred style of pro ball from the RR style so far. I also think that Michigan has a very good strength and conditioning program. Lewan is a great OL in the making: Denard Robinson is an outstanding College spread QB.

First, RR did not recruit tackles. They are filled with mostly guards. Lewan, however is an outstanding OL. I can see why Kalis, Tiley-Tillman and Erik Magnuson went to Michigan. Storied program and very early playing time. Two of these guys if not all three will have a lot of early PT.

Second, Michigan has very little depth. They have very mediocre DEs which explains Chris Wormley and Tom Stobels decisions to go there. One or maybe both will get serious playing time in their first year. Also, Andre Pipkins will be a starter with Camplbell in the interior DL spot before too long into the season.

Thin at Linebacker also: thus Joe Boldon and Gedeon.

Thin, Thin, Thin and THin. Injuries would decimate this team quickly and fast. Simply so little depth, almost everywhere.

Alabama will kill them. Notre Dame will beat them soundly. They will 2 and 2 in their first four games and OSU will be 4 and 0.

If they lose Denard Robinson to injury their season will fall apart.

Luck won ND. Luck actually won the OSU game (we should have scored 50) and Luck won the VT game IMHO. Luck only goes so far.

  • Their lines looked fat and slow to me.

Oh yeah, besides Denard, they have ZERO playmakers. Roundtree? Please.

I'm thinking 9-3 at best for them.

A lot of your "good" points were because other parts of Michigan's football team were just bad making them look good. Their Oline will be very young and will get exposed all season. No matter how slowly Mattison eases Michian's offense (Mattison is the real Head Coach, not Hoke) into a pro style, Denard is still a spread QB not a drop back. He will struggle again this year. Michigan's defense has who to make plays? Their best players are gone. I agree about the depth.

  • Spring games are not what they used to be..Actually I am not expecting very much from next week Ohio State spring game either..I understand Meyer's spring game format will include 10 minute quarters and continuous running game clock in the 2nd 3rd and 4th quarters..I doubt that we will see he starters much past the 2nd quarter..I believe winners and losers contest will be decided by back-ups next saturday IMO

AND..they could very well be the best B1G team (eligible anyways). The B1G has been down lately and next year IMO will be the bottom. Brace yourselves for a lot of negative reviews..and probably deserved. Weak, weak conferencenext year. Purdue may surprise everyone and win the league.
