New sheriff in town

  • Urban said publicly that this team is NOT BROKE. We had a very good strength and conditioning program under JT. We did not lose games due to conditioning and Ohio State showed they were better conditioned then many other top teams. Example: In the Rose Bowl against Oregon we were the more physical team hands down. True, Bollman was a lazy recruiter and offered several overweight O-linemen last year. And I do not count this year because of the turmoil and there being an Interim coaching situation. Can the team be in even better condition? Sure but that can be accomplished by next fall. There are always going to be players that will not want to play for the new coach. Just look at how many people transfer/leave etc. when you get tough new management at your work. Come on people… Jim Trussel did not win 6 B1G titles, go 6-4 in Bowl games and have a 94-22 overall record at Ohio State by being a bad recruiter and by having a lazy team. How soon people forget!

  • I can confirm that the players were tweeting about a 6 PM meeting sometime in the middle of last week...

  • I don't know exactly what was said and it really doesn't matter. Whatever was said was certainly designed to motivate the players. It's obvious Meyer wants to play more up-tempo so players will need to be in shape to do that. (he was just warning them). Likewise I wouldn't be surprised to hear that all postions are up for grabs. Does that mean Miller wont be the starter? Of course not. Meyer is just saying that just because you started last year doesn't guarantee you that spot this year. I think a good example is Storm Klein who I think is too slow and won't be the starter next year. Now maybe, I am drinking too much of the Kool-aid but I actually think we could see a number of freshman either starting (i.e., Spence) or certainly in the 2-deep rotation. I also expect to see a few departures by guys who sense they won't see the playing field and want to salvage their careers elosewhere or guys who are unwilling to make the off-season commitment to getting better, which I suspect will be rigorous.

  • I think Urban used the weight room cleaning technique before. It is metaphorically a profound insult to a (former championship) football team; kind of like forcing a great chef who has become pompous and lazy into the humble chore of scrubbing his kitchen.

Last Monday's 7 a.m. meeting was brutal. Clearly there's a new sheriff in town. Rule No. 1, any drugs, you're gone. No second chances, out immediately. The coach said the OSU roster is loaded with fat, lazy, slow players lacking drive and emotion. If he had known a month ago the shape of this team he would've never taken the job. Players were supposed to get a week off, but when a couple of them were late to the first week of classes, Urban called another meeting and ripped them again for lacking discipline and respect. They were sentenced to a 5:30 a.m. shift of cleaning the weight room. This player said the entire team HATES Gene Smith. He rewarded these outgoing seniors, whom most of the underclassmen despised (so much for Boom being this incredible leader by the way) and screwed the underclassmen. Obviously Meyer is breaking down the colts, just as he did at Bowling Green and Utah, so look for heavy attrition this winter and spring.

You are a Lier! he didn't say half that of what you said, get off the board!

  • Guys come on, stop calling each other names! It is hard to believe you are all Buckeyes! Does it really matter who exaggerates or doesn't? Bottom line---Urban Meyer will kick Ass!!!

  • Interesting that he brought up the drug point. I have heard from multiple guys (and we have seen in recent years with the one year suspensions) that there has been an emerging weed culture amongst some parts of the team. It definitely explains some of the distractions.

Who here was shocked when the tatt shop allegations mentioned the possibility of trading memoribilia/autographs for weed? Those allegations were never proven, but when I heard them I was not even a little bit surprised; hell I thought it made sense if you are already trading and hanging out with a drug dealer.

By the way SoCal, I'd love to see you call this particular player a liar to his face. To be stuffed in a trash can and lose all bodily functions would probably be the most pleasant part of your encounter with him.

Easy Francis...he is just being skeptical as am I....to hear this now, after a week or so and the timing of hearing this, most all fans will be skeptical......stop with the juvenile threats from the player...we all love the bucks and are hoping this is mostly accurate.....thanks for reporting what you heard.

  • The only way that Urban Meyer can get the players he needs is to run off the ill motivated. If players leave on their own accord then he can recruit players to replace the under performers. It is the way that Nick Saban does it...it may not be the B10 way but it will produce results. Unfortunately this mentality is the only way the OSU can keep up with the SEC West Jones's.
