OL Hears He Is Top OSU Target

An Ohioan who has been told he is a top Ohio State offensive line target will camp at OSU Sunday and could earn a scholarship offer from the Buckeyes.

  • Offers from Boston College (Bollman), Pitt (that UW staff there now evaluated OL well at Wisconsin), Virginia (gets a lot of OL to the NFL), West Virginia, Louisville, Cincinnati, Arizona State, Kansas (how can Weis be wrong, an offensive genuis?) and NC State is pretty impressive.
I read Stanford may be real close to offering Coverdale, which with academics and Stanford's OL recently impresses.
Question, if Bollman offered this kid a camp offer, would this board be irate?
Camp offers usually pan out pretty good, so lets see what happens.

The other OL to watch is Peterson, he seems to be back now with the weight he lost is back, and he looks pretty lean and cut for the 275/280 range, and just had a good Columbus Nike camp. Saw WVU just offered, I think he is another to watch. He would have had more offers if not for that weight loss he had for whatever reason.

  • Let's hope we don't wait and offer this young man. 6'7 with his frame and long arms is a great start. His videos shows he ahs decent feet. He could be another Taylor Decker type, long angular frame that can carry weight well. Good luck this weekend young man

  • I'm irate just because I had to see Bollman's name twice in this thread!! Ahhh! So looking forward to his name fading away.

  • Film is nice, Coverdale is the kind of lean athletic OT I have seen Iowa and Wisconsin steal like this and turn them into all conference OL, and first round and day one NFL OL.
Mason did the same at Minnesota, most of it is coaching once they get to college.

  • Actually, this article should read, "Top REMAINING Target" as every other lineman that we wanted went elsewhere. Feels like a fall back player. Hate to be negative. I just call it as I see it.

  • Reminds me alot of Sam Longo and we all know how that ended.

Early commits decommit all the time, and then you have coaching changes that cause decommits.
You obviously do not follow recruiting much, Penn State's coach getting fired opened up O'Connor.
Then Meyer stole Dodson and Decker late.
Meyer is not going to quit recruiting a few of these early commits, and with his track record, he will steal 1/2 back, he always has.

The Longo comparison, pretty bad. To begin with Longo had offers from most Big Ten schools, Miami, FSU (with OL guru Trickett), UNC, Nebraska, several Pac 12 school and more Big East and ACC schools, he had about 30 total when he committed. Penn State actually thought they had Longo when he camped at OSU and got his offer.
Longo actually was about 6'5" and not quite that wing span, he got into weight lifting more and gave football up.
So you could not be more wrong, Longo's offer list showed how good he could have been, he just opted to get out of football and was into the weight lifting body aspect.
Rick Trickett is known as an offensive OL guru, one of the best in college football. FSU barely offers kids in Ohio, let alone OL. Trickett offered Longo, the kid just gave up the football route. Not a good comparison at all really.

I thought I was wrong once, but I was mistaken.

  • Hate being a hater but I agree with heisman1995... just not feeling the recruiting buzz of late. The 11 recruits OSU have look like studs but they dont seem to be on top with most of their remaining top targets (as we"ve seen this past week). This is the only negative about recruiting the very top national talent, some of the remaining players either see it as a slap in the face or just simply aren't OSU level talent.

I have to agree with you. His film is very underwhelming for a kid his size. He plays to high and it looks like he's holding on a lot of his blocks because he lacks foot speed to get in position. He doesn't have very good punch! I don't know how good his competition is but it looks to me like he just is so much bigger that he beats his man in HS. I think this kid is a real reach and I just don't see him as being worth tying up a scholarship here for 4 years. I'd rather have Kyle Meadows!

  • Near the top of the recruiting board but doesn't have an offer? Really? Can't be that near the top. Sounds good though but he has to earn the offer at camp makes it sound like he really isn't all that near the top.

  • Don't follow recruiting much? Shit, please! I have been a member of the Grove for over 8 years. Sam Longo was 6'5 and as athletic a lineman as you will find. He even won an award at a camp for being one of the most athletic linemen. Isn't that what Urban wants? Is there a reason as to why now, that we may offer? Hmmm, let me think, it's because everyone else we wanted committed somewhere else. Meyer took OHIO kids back and one who was caught up in the Ped State fiasco! Bad example on you my friend and I know all about the de commit issues that are around. Longo we offered after our main targets went elsewhere so again, you’re wrong. Rick Trickett is a good line coach, ours still have to prove their worth yet before I will anoint them king and another thing, what makes you so great and knowledgeable in recruiting? Because you follow a board? Get a life then buddy! Don't bank on Meyer stealing recruits! I would prefer as they and everyone else, to get them the first time around. Ohh, FSU ALWAYS offers Ohio kids you dip shit! Zebrie Sanders, Longo, Gall, Meadows, Walker, and Ryan Kelly. Thats just pretty much in the last few years. You need to ask before you sit at the big boys table!
