OL Hears He Is Top OSU Target

  • Well lets be honest, this kid is a bit of a fall back, but the reality is like anything else in life, you plan to what is ideal, but you have a backup plan too. So I would be happy to have him!

Don't follow recruiting much? Shit, please! I have been a member of the Grove for over 8 years. Sam Longo was 6'5 and as athletic a lineman as you will find. He even won an award at a camp for being one of the most athletic linemen. Isn't that what Urban wants? Is there a reason as to why now, that we may offer? Hmmm, let me think, it's because everyone else we wanted committed somewhere else. Meyer took OHIO kids back and one who was caught up in the Ped State fiasco! Bad example on you my friend and I know all about the de commit issues that are around. Longo we offered after our main targets went elsewhere so again, you’re wrong. Rick Trickett is a good line coach, ours still have to prove their worth yet before I will anoint them king and another thing, what makes you so great and knowledgeable in recruiting? Because you follow a board? Get a life then buddy! Don't bank on Meyer stealing recruits! I would prefer as they and everyone else, to get them the first time around. Ohh, FSU ALWAYS offers Ohio kids you dip shit! Zebrie Sanders, Longo, Gall, Meadows, Walker, and Ryan Kelly. Thats just pretty much in the last few years. You need to ask before you sit at the big boys table!

Longo is still a bad comparison. OSU offered and got commitments from Linsley and Mewhort. They offered Longo in June (during an unofficial visit) and obviously still had Hall on the board. He committed in July before other top targets like Watt (ND) did. He was nothing close to a 'fall back'.

A lot more players said no thanks in this instance but this is only the 2nd OL from OH that they are looking at, hardly a bottom of the barrel type situation.

Like a lot of you have already stated. Some of the O-Lineman are going to blow up during camps and during their senior year. He may be one of them.

I like Rodgers but if he goes elsewhere why not take Peterson and this kid and then move on to next year both are good looking O-lineman that our staff could make better ?? I think they both have alot of potential and both Ohio boys!!!!

  • What an unusual and diverse assortment of academic institutions he lists. Ivy leagues, UVA, Stanford, Northwestern and then a host of glorified JC's.

  • Meadows may very well emerge as the Ohio OL they offer, this story says one of the top OL, which sounds reasonable.
I like the idea of challenging the kid to come to camp and earn an offer. Maybe they throw the best 4 in the same ring and see if 1 deserves an OSU OL offer. This is called offering from a position of strength when you already have Decker, Dodson and Lisle, none of whom have strapped on an OSU helmet yet.

Yep, and this is the kind of kid OSU has spurned in the past and Iowa and Wisconsin have taken and made NFL first round or day one draft picks. Same with Mason at Minnesota, most of OL at the next level is coaching and want to.
Maybe OSU has a few OL defections when O'Connor, Dodson and Boren move up the depth chart, and we land another OT like the kid from Georgia or another OOS kid, these evaluations from summer camp are there to use down the road as well.
Maybe we get Peterson (without his weight loss, he would have alot more offers, and they are starting to pop up healthy) and one more OOS OT and two kids transfer after this season.
If Cloverdale just keeps getting better and OSU calls and offers and he wants to come, you still have these evaluations in your back pocket.
Other Ohio kids have said no I am not camping, give this kid credit for camping with his 20 offers in hand.

Makes literally no sense to be at the top of their list and not have an offer

top of the list meaning soon to be offered list. not overallbow

Film is nice, Coverdale is the kind of lean athletic OT I have seen Iowa and Wisconsin steal like this and turn them into all conference OL, and first round and day one NFL OL. Mason did the same at Minnesota, most of it is coaching once they get to college.

hey heisman, it's quite obvious that you can't possibly know what the hell you're talking about. You only have 12 posts. LOL. You gotta start posting stupid shit so your post count goes up. Makes you look more knowledgable when it comes to the pigskin. If you are of a differing opinion than 83, than your opinion doesn't count either. He has probably already put you on ignore. He does that to anyone who has a brain.

Actually, this article should read, "Top REMAINING Target" as every other lineman that we wanted went elsewhere. Feels like a fall back player. Hate to be negative. I just call it as I see it.

Marginal at best, for sure not "elite".

Only elite player left on the board is Dorian Johnson, who may be one of the top 1-2-3 OT in the entire class of 2013.

Meyer and crew need to go after him hard and bring him in.

Add Johnson to Dodson and Decker from 2012 class, plus the very strong 2014 class upcoming and OSU will have the elite OT's and depth that is needed.

  • ohiost83 is right on. Recruiting is never ending. We never rate a class in early June. Some of you need to simply trust our staff. They are better qualified than us.

  • Coverdale .... cool name for linemen.

    spiritbuck70

  • Coverdale is a 2013 offer; there are plenty of other OT prospects still available for 2013. So how can he be a fallback player if he is a 2013 prospect and there are guys still available?
