OSU is the only program in the B1G that gets it.

  • Coaching, recruiting and facilities. OSU has it in all phases but the rest of the conference is not even close.

Some will argue Hoke and scUM gets it too but I see them as 2 tier and after a few losses in a row against us I see Hoke being on the hot seat.

OSU is the class of the conference and no one else is stepping up to the challenge from what it looks like.

We should be beating teams by a lot more points than we are now. It sounds like the only game our players did well in was the blowout against Nebraska.

With new coaches and a brand new offense in place? Not really.

No one predicted the Buckeyes would go 12-0 this year yet here we are.

I think Michigan has everything it takes as a program to be truly relevant again except for the right head coach. Penn State had everything it took as well until the scandal deep sixed everything. Nebraska has been on a steady downward slide for over a decade now, with the brief exception of the Suh year. Wisky has been steadily good over the past decade. I would call 3 straight Rose Bowl appearances the absolute zenith for that program no matter who's coaching there. Michigan State has been fairly consistent with Dantonio at the helm as well.

Every other program in the conference really has to have the right set of circumstances(coach, recruiting, facilities, winning a few games) to be successful. If a program doesn't have a winning tradition, it has to be manufactured(see Boise State). Unfortunately since most of the conference doesn't wanna put money into big time coaches and facilities, it has been on a steady decline for the last decade or so.

I wouldn't say no one predicted 12-0. In fact, it was a popular sentiment here on bucknuts fwiw.

Yeah I know personally I had great confidence that we would, even when we we're barely winning against the bad teams. This team wasn't dysfunctional, or had anything bad about them at all. They we're very talented, used to winning and they fought for the perfect year to say fuck you to the media, the ncaa, and the rest of cfb.

I'm still so proud of them for keeping that focus and fighting through some serious wholes defensively and learned a new offense and still found a way every time.

    ^^^^ This

Bottom line this team exceeded expectations because of Meyer. Imagine what Meyer will do when the whole roster is his guys. He is going to destroy the B1G and make that fat lard up north choke on his donuts.

  • It's not that these teams aren't going after the right recruits its just the fact that they can't land the top players when they go against schools such as Florida Alabama Texas ND tOSU and etc. Schools such as Iowa Minnesota are in states that are not appealing to high school kids. So I don't blame the coaches just the location.

  • Look at coaching longevity. The conference has been a meat grinder for head coaches the last five years. Every change at the top hits a reset button on a program. And most coaching changes are necessitated by poor performance on the field. So weak programs starting fresh is what's happened over and over again. And that leads to a failure to get traction which leads to building programs and generating on field success. UM is still digging out from under a bad hire. MN is too. As is IU, IL, etc etc. Unfortunately it seems that success begets success and failure begets failure in a vicious feedback loop.
