Yes way OT, but I am bored and wanted to see if there are any Medieval film or Medieval history buffs out there.
What are some of your favorite medieval films or books? I just saw Ironclad last night with Paul Giamatti playing the evil King John. I really enjoyed and can say it's now my second favorite medieval film behind Braveheart (which will be very hard to top, it's perfect in every way).
The kill scenes in Ironclad might top Braveheart.
Some other's I liked are Black Death, The Eagle (though not medieval but still great), and Timeline (though it is a bad film it's a guilty pleasure of mine).
Any films or books out there you guys recommend?
Or if there are any medieval history buffs here I'd love to chat some history with you!
Ya these types of movies are great! If you haven't seen Game of Thrones yet, you're missing out. I plan on reading them too someday but right now I'm reading The Kingkiller Chronicles (Name of the Wind). Also really really good but started pretty slow.
I really like all the big name ones..... LotR, Gladiator, The Last Samurai, The Patriot, etc. The Spartacus series is really good too. I would def recommend that.
I realize these aren't all "medieval" times but I guess I'm categorizing all the epic war/fantasy/adventure movies into one
There are not very many medieval movies out there..at least good ones
My favorite is "The Lion in Winter" followed by.."A Man for all Seasons".."Name of the Rose" and "Henry the 5th"
However HBO's "Game of Thrones" maybe be considered medieval fiction
Perhaps not quite medieval, but Rob Roy is by far the best period film, IMO. Climax was rated best film swordfight ever. If you've never seen it, watch it. You won't be disappointed. Tim Roth is a great villain as Archibald Cunningham, opposing Liam Neeson as Rob Roy McGregor.
