OT: Buying a new Honda. Any Bucknutter's in the biz?

  • A guy at work has been trying to get a good deal on a new Accord for several months and went to mutable dealers in the process. Someone suggested to him an internet site that he used to buy on-line straight from the dealer. He ended up saving $4700 off of the best deal he got going to the dealers in person. I think this was the site .. http://autos.aol.com/new-cars/

I will ask him for the site name and post.

    Yes, please do. Thanks.

  • Hey bids.

Look it up. It is darn close. Not all cars depreciate the same.

I have seen 2002 accords in the paper for 8 grand.

    They're safer in what way?

Purchased a Pilot in 2003, now it has just under 137,000 on it and runs like a clock.

  • I have been in the car business for 20 years. I sell FORD and LINCOLN, we are right next to a honda dealer and we are out selling them every month. Ford has the new FUSION coming out and the ESCAPE also. If you are looking for resale value ford is the highest right now between them and honda or toyota. The 2007-2012 fusion also ranks high at jdpower than any of there models. Give it a try you will like what you see. Honda and Toyota are no longer king.

Fair enough. And like someone else pointed out, there's no question Hondas retain their value better than the vast majority of cars.

The overall quality difference between the two brands is minimal.
Safety with all major brands is very, very good.
Honda gasoline engine technology is excellent.

I am on my 4th Honda vehicle; first two were Acura TLs, 3rd was an Accord fully decked out, and now a CrossTour. The CT interior is darn near the same as a TL and the interior configuration is excellent for our needs( I'm not hauling kids ).

For my money a fully loaded Accord is a better value that a TL.....performance, handling is so close as not to be an issue. Interior quliyt certainly in favor of the TL.

Toyotas's don't do it for me. Lexus is a different animal...those are really cool.

Too bad Hoov is in min-van mode.

The Fusion is a real nice vehicle in the sub-compact segment. Great looking car. Ford is doing a nice job there.

  • Dave B. - How many Hondas do you own? High resale value. Same for Toyota before the recall. I have one of each and they are both great.

  • I just saw pictures of the new escape and it looks really nice....like a mini Explorer. They have done a great job on this vehicle.
I own a Honda also and it is very sturdy and just keeps running. They have a great reputation, thus the high resale value. But, I see awesome cars coming from Ford and others that are just as nice.

Sory, didn't mean to imply that I was giving you "tude". Cell phone posting is tricky

I am waiting a couple years to see if the new ford products are going to be what we think they are. Honestly, they have much more style, but I am waiting to see if the substance is there in 5 years.

There's a difference between "high resale value" and "only $2-3K less than the sticker price of a new car." As much as Hondas retain their value, I bet I could still get one that's 2 years old for at least 5 grand less than what it cost new.

Yes, Hondas have great resale value. No, they don't just depreciate $1K in the first year. There is middle ground.

    Dave Biddle

  • For example, I bought my wife a Toyota Sienna 2 years ago. It was just one-year old (2009 model, bought it in 2010). A lot of miles for just one year (20K) but I bought it for $8K less than what it would have cost new.

I know Hondas and Toyotas aren't the exact same thing, but they're close. Goes to show just how much a car depreciates in the first year. It's amazing. Hondas less so than other cars, but it's not like Hondas are immune from it.

Here are 2 that I found.

I think that I may have overstated just a smidge. But, not a whole lot.

2 years, 3800$. In this case, I buy new

I tried that for a while. It wasn't working out too well. Ha. My dad raised me to buy only American. He has always only bought American-made cars. But somewhere, I lost my way. (Oh yeah, it was the last time one of my POS American cars broke down on me way too early. Ha.)

American most likely means you're sending your money to Michigan. Honda employs A LOT of people in Ohio.

I'm a Buckeye, so I drive an Accord.

  • I work at Honda R&D in Raymond, Ohio...Like the one gentleman said, Honda provides a ton of jobs to Ohio (East Liberty, Anna, Marysville)...not to pub Honda too much, but suppliers always tell us we are the highest spec. vehicles in the market...you wouldn't believe the demand we expect from every part...some other manufacturers might have us on gadgets, but when you buy Honda's, you are buying the most durable product/safe product you can buy...no bs

    TheInKardoble

  • The people at Honda East hooked up wife and I when we bought her car there a year or two ago. Lindsay family knows what they're doing, very appreciative of their customers. That would be my first place to check if I was in the market.
