Sorry guys, but Angus Young of AC/DC blows the doors off everyone else. That little guy is amazing. He never misses a note, and the guy is constantly running, jumping, duck walking etc.... Not even one mention on here. Wow!

Al Di Meola. This man can do wonders on a guitar that no one else can match. But, I also love Hendrix and Jeff Beck.

The new album is good, even very good, but you miss Frusciante's stylings on guitar Flea is obviously amazing, Kiedis' lyrics are unique and Chad Smith is great too, but Frusciante is perhaps what tied them together in their best work.

Hendrix, Page, Gilmour, Young and Eddie V. - For energy and rock
Clapton, Guy, Collins and Danny Gatton - For Blues or blues rock
Al Di Meola - Which Chaz mentioned is simply amazing
No one has mentioned Steve Stevens (many bands but best known for Billy Idol) That guy was as close to Hendrix that I have ever seen making sounds with a guitar that others just dream of.
I am also surprised no one has mentioned Mark Knopfler of Dire Straits. Pretty amazing sound.
Best known guitar riffs(ones that you only need to hear a few chords or notes and you know exactly who it is) Keith Richards and Edge from U2

Because Bruce Springsteen is such a great singer/song writer/live performer, I think he is just about the most under-rated lead guitarist of all time. And yes, he is the lead guitarist of the E Street Band despite have two other really great ones in Stevie Van Zandt and Nils Lofgren along side hime. The Boss absolutely wails on his guitar though!
