I had 70 Chevelle SS 396 original, but replaced by 327 as 1st car. That car could lay down the longest black burnout marks, oh the smell... friend had many mustangs 68, 70, 71, other friend had 67 Chevelle SS 396, engine lasted 2 months had to replace with 350 (bummer). We had fun cruisin the backroads of eastern Ohio in the late 70s early 80s and hangin out at DiCarlos Pizza...
I loved those '64 and '65 Pontiac GTOs.
You could practically lift them off the ground by hand. You had to learn how to control them with so little weight and so many horses. They were cheap production cars that almost anyone could afford [unlike the Vettes and Cobras listed here] but you got amazing speed and acceleration for the money. Never raced one officially, but sure left lots of rubber outside the homes of cute high school girls.
When in doubt, punt.
