Anybody use this for movies and music? Since cutting the cable a month ago I found some really great replacements. Just wondering who else has done this.

I've been using PlayOn! media server for a long time with my android, roku, xbox360, ps3, and straight to my samsung tv. It looks similar to plex. The experience has been great, other than DLNA to a media server that is getting an online stream doesn't always rewind/fast forward well. But, as far as watching, the experience has been great.
The other thing to remember is that every video is crossing your network 2 times - to your PC and then back to the client. If you can connect the PC to your network directly using an ethernet cable, even if he clients are wifi, you get great scalability to multiple devices at the same time. If it's all wifi, just try and deploy the fastest Wifi you can if you are using multiple devices at the same time to watch video.
I tried PlayOn as well but had may problems with it. As you mentioned the fastforward and rewind but anything ps3 involved was not working well. They were very nice and refunded my money within seconds of my email. Moved over to Plex and have had some small issues with movies in one folder not showing up from time to time. Just unlink then link and it has always resolved it. It's not perfect but the best I have found.
I did get the android app and it works well also. I can stream movies to our nexus 7 while at the YMCA for kids basketball.
Also at work they cut off our radio streaming so now I just stream my whole collection from home. If they keep restricting my internet I will start watching movies instead of just listening to the radio while I work. Hole notha issue tho
