OT - Scotch and Bourbon suggestions

  • The words Scotch and Bourbon give me goosebumps....in a good way

I started on Scotch: Glenvlivet 12yr and Glenfiddich but Glenvlivet 18, Oban 14 year, Glenmorangie all tasty. Single Malt is best...but the staples (Dewars, Johnnie Walker all good blended daily drinking Scotch Whiskey.........but then i found Bourbon and that is basically THE SHIT, period

I was always a Jim Beam drinker through college (white label) but I soon found the Kentucky Bourbon Festival...Yes folks, the KENTUCKY BOURBON FESTIVAL. If any of you have not heard of it or have heard of it and not attended you must put it on the list and go..one word....HEAVEN. Great festival....great people, plenty to of activities to attend, Distilleries to visit....shit tons of drinking to do. If anyone goes and needs guidance I will be glad to offer my experiences as help.

    www.kybourbonfestival.com

My top Bourbons: (in no particular order because i do not discriminate when it comes to Bourbon, that would be stupid).

    1. Blanton's (made by Buffalo Trace)
    2. Four Roses (all 3: yellow label is good and cheap, Single Barrell is awesome, Small Batch is good)
    2. Makers Mark (including Makers 46)
    3. Eagle Rare
    4. Jim Beam (Black Label, Basil Hayden, Devil's Cut, Knob Creek)
    5. Buffalo Trace (regulare BT, Any of the Pappy Van Winkles)
    6. 1792
    7. Angels Envy (new)
    8. Every day drinking bourbons (or ones I mix with coke or somethign: Evan Williams, Ezra Brooks, Jim Beam white label)
    9. Elmer T Lee

I know i am probably missing a few but god damn Bourbon is good people!!!!!!!!!

    Cheers!!!!!!!

    Bump

    Had Oban 14yr tonight. Fantastic

Elijah Craig is a staple now in my home. 1792 is wonderful if you haven't had it.

Just finished a Japanese whiskey Yamazaki and it was so smooth I had half a bottle last Saturday.

Will be moving to the Eagle Reserve this coming weekend.

I had Oban 14 over the weekend for the first time. I'd agree, it's very good.

I had Yamazaki a few months ago and would highly recommend it. It was excellent. Both great calls.

  • By the way, thanks for all the suggestions along the way. I ended getting my friend Elijah Craig and he loved it.

Not sure what is on tap this weekend as far as drinking but there is a good chance it will have been mentioned on this thread.

If you like PVW, try Booker's; then we will find out if you are the real Dirtnasty.

Have not seen Dalwhinnie mentioned on the thread that much, but a fine scotch it is. Here is a pic of Pops at the Dalwhinnie distillery when we were there a few years back.

High alcohol percent, attacks the taste buds, slow burn. If that's your style, then you will most likely enjoy Pappy and Booker's. I prefer the 90-95 proof range with somewhat of a smoother flow.

Bookers is a jolt to your taste buds but well worth it. I perfer Woodford Reserve over Bookers but won't turn away a glass when offered.

I am going to bust open the Eagle Rare this weekend.

Like the Dalwhinnie quite a bit,

Also like Glenfarclas, 10 year single malt...especially if you are looking for a Highlands scotch.

For Irish Whiskey its Redbreast...Jameson's single pot still. 12 year is plenty good, 15 is good but not worth the price difference.

I'm gonna have one tonight after this discussion...

  • On the subject of Irish Whiskey, Bushmills 16 is fantastic. I like the 12, but the 16 yr is special.
