OT - The Avengers

  • Just got back from the midnight showing, and wow.

I'm hypercritical of film and actually am involved in some writing projects on the side, and this was a masterpiece.

It isn't like the newer Batman films, this is still about superheros, aliens, and all the far out comic book stuff. What is so special is this is the first time it's ever been pulled off like this.

Seriously, if you've ever liked a movie before, go see the Avengers. You will be at the very least highly entertained.

  • Thanks for the heads up, seeing it tonight.

Question, do you feel that you have to see all of the individual movies leading up to The Avengers before seeing it? I haven't see Thor and Captain America yet, so not sure whether to hold off on TA until I have

I can't answer your question Mike but Captain America was top shelf. Thor was good. The non-earth scenes are superior to anything they included earth based. There may be some small things that will make more sense if you have seen the others but Joss Whedon doesn't do a lot of that so as to not alienate folks like you who haven't the same base of reference.

  • All of the other movies - Iron Man (End scene after the Credits), Iron Man 2 (Tie-ins of Shield and Nick Furey plus the idea of a Greater Group, and the introduction of Black Widow), The Incredible Hulk (Refrences of the Super Soldier Program and how that ties into Capt. America, end scene before the credits the Introduction by Tony Stark talking to Gen. Ross about the idea of putting a Team together) Capt. America ( The introduction of the Cosmic cube, and how that will play a role later on, the end scene of the movie where he is re-introduced to modern society to help save the planet), Thor (The introduction of Hawkeye in a minor part of the movie, the end scene after the credits how Loki is stuck on planet earth and he comes to possess the one scientist and getting the cosmic cube) Tie- Ins for the AVENGERS

I live in Columbus but my best friend who is my writing partner is out in Hollywood.

As far as seeing the others, I don't think you have to but it will certainly help. This one is a whole league better than the rest of the movies leading into it. Joss Whedon is going to blow up now and finally get recognized for how good he is.

Thor and Captain America weren't as good of movies, but they also were direct plot lead ins to Avengers. The main villain is Loki from Thor and the plot centers around the device from Captain America.

  • Always go with my adolescent kids to see these comic book movies, and they are great--if you don't expect anything of real substance (kind of like the rest of Hollywood if you think about it).

    And Whedon is great: FIREFLY!

  • Oh man...saw the movie last night too. Actually, Rave Theaters here did a Marvel Marathon that I attended and showed the new Avenger movie as the finale in 3D. I was blown away...absolutely one of the best movies I have ever seen and by far the best of the Marvel movies yet. It is an absolute must-see.
