Because I couldn't go for 3
"This stadium, not surprisingly, isn't being built solely for just a Mountain West program that hasn't had a winning record since 2000 and has never been as high of a priority at the school as the famous basketball program. The hope is that other major events make it a money-making venture."
If you were confused......
We may have lost the battle......but not the war.
I live here in the area now and have been out to Sam Boyd for the Maaco Bowl. It took over an hour to get back to the strip and to the tables for the guests. That is not what LV wants. The stadium would be built on Swenson and Harmon just about two blocks from the Hard Rock and less than 10 minutes in traffic from MGM and other Stip hotels. Currently they have nothing to attract large sporting events--but with a great stadium, they can discuss Super Bowl and other activities. Plus the National Finals Rodeo is outgrowing the Thomas and Mack center. This year they sold out every performance and had to turn people away. For that event they would be able to attract 30K per night instead of 20 and for the final night pull in almost 60. The revenue is unbelievable compared to what most universities would dream of because it is the only School where I have been that serves Alcohol to the patrons at all events. Serving Beer at $6 per pop and mixed drinks from $7 to $15 per pop will bring in more revenue for the university than most schools get from their entire athletic program.
As we have seen, Athletics is about the money and Las Vegas is no different it is about the money. There will be a lot of planning and fights over who pays for this and when it does open, there will be problems that will have to be resolved about what events will be there and which ones will be in Casinos. I am not sure that the MGM or any other casino wants to give up their rights to fights. We shall see.
The plan calls for a 100 Yard high definition screen.
The minor detail they have to work through right now is the height of the building. It is on the flight pattern for the airport. They have to determine the height and allowable difference before they can go any further as of this weeks meeting.
Highly doubt this will happen. Can easily see Steve Wynn, Sheldon Adolson or the Fertitas having City Council shoot it down if they aren't involved. I'm in commercial real estate here in Vegas and you'd be amazed how shady these hotel owners are.
Hey doc, they will probably all be involved because there is enough funds to go around. They will certainly make money on the deal.
