OT: Why continue being a Browns fan??

  • This could be the ugliest mess in pro sports history.

Free Agents and Draft rookies don't want to come to Cleveland. They don't think Cleveland is even trying to put a winning team together. (Don't believe me? Listen to this interview: http://cleveland.cbslocal.com/2012/03/21/matt-miller-of-bleacher-report-joins-bull-fox/ ). Mike Holmgren won't talk to the media and give even any basic answers as to what is going on, but then goes to Seattle twice and talks freely, and then cries foul and wonders why the Cleveland media is ripping him to shreds. Pat Shurmur is the biggest idiot coach I have ever seen, and doesn't appear to understand basic concepts that a HS coach would. Chris Gocong got a $5.2M/Yr. contract deal. Chris. Freaking. Gocong. Are you f%^&^% kidding me?! Your starting QB suffered a concussion while playing your biggest rival, and absolutely noone of your entire team or coaching staff saw the hit (or so you claim adamantly). Mike Holmgren claimed 5 wins is not enough, but with his hand-picked coach and draft class added you managed to win 4 games. You also said Brian Robiskie and Massiquoi are good enough at receiver. You let Kamerion Wimbley go and then wonder what's wrong as Ray Rice gashes you for 3000 yards. You hire an OC, Brad Childress, and then later admitted its all window dressing as Shurmur will still be calling plays (or epically failing at it). All the while, the """"""Owner"""""" of the Browns (notice the quotes) is nowhere to be found and just does not give a damn.

I could hold out and see what they do in the draft. But its Cleveland. They'll find a way to mess it up.

Can anyone come up with a reason to keep being a Browns fan?? I sure can't. The past is just that. PAST. Who cares??

Hey Mike: Don't come crying to me to buy tickets, after home games starting getting blacked out this season.

  • What is the alternative? Becoming a bandwagon fan of some other team? Despite Cleveland's awful front office and all its insane decisions I will be a Browns fan for life.

  • for the last 10 years, browns games are there as an excuse to hang out with buddies, get hammered on a sunday, and watch some football. I still spend way too much time on them, but the emotional tie was cut a long time ago.

  • Cleveland Browns stadium= the factory of sadness. I was born a Browns fan and I do not have a single happy Browns memory. The Drive, The Fumble, The Move.... We are defined by our miserable history. That is why I love the Buckeyes so much, even through the rough times, we are still winners and we have a lot more happy memories than sad ones. The worst season in Buckeye history after a losing season and the down fall of a legendary coach, we follow it up with hiring arguably the best coach in college football and a top 5 recruiting class. Out of all the sports team that I follow, the Buckeyes are the only team I am proud of. I will never be a bandwagon fan because they make me sick, but the Browns and the Indians sure don't bring me much happiness.

The alternative is seperating yourself from NFL football. It can be done.

  • Only ohio PRO team i liked was the cleveland indians. Over the years, ive come to the realization that the indians are a ponzi scheme, they just want your money an dont care about trying to build a winner. I listen to browns fans an assume the same thing, cleveland in general, is in this scheme together. Any ideas on a new baseball team to cheer for?

  • still have the XMAS song " twelve days of the Cleveland Browns " memorized from my youth.

Since the days of Brian Sipe, Clay Mathews senior ...... I was hooked. Grandfather, Dad, uncles, and cousins all brain washed me.

Those that remember ... Hanford Dixon and Frank Minnifield made a poster back in the day. The player they are resting there foot
on .....is my brother in law. http://www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=251013354061&_trksid=p2992.m753

I am not a Doom and Gloom fan who point out the bad.

Just had a lot of good memories from the old dawg pound and still admire the Brown fans for being so loyal.

Want to live long enough to be around when its cool to be a Browns fan again.

Fans of other teams don't bother me ....if they are loyal and stick with one.

you dont have much room to talk. I know your team made the playoffs, but your team sucked for a long time too, and was at times even worse than the browns.

Yeah same fan base that has blackouts with a playoff team. real strong. If the Browns ever make the playoffs again, you can guaran-damn-tee that seats will be at a premium.

Hey Mike: Don't come crying to me to buy tickets, after home games starting getting blacked out this season.

You know, Browns' fans, Indians' fans, Cavs' fans, and Buckeyes are loyal above all else. Loyalty in these cases aren't based on results.

But I understand your point. This loyalty has been taken advantage of, abused, by a series of bad organizational moves over multiple organizations and owners.

NE Ohio fans are basically waiting for ANY of their pro sports teams to put together a winner. The closest thing they had was the Cavs a few years ago and much of the angst directed towards LeClown is because he did the one thing that you absolutely cannot do to a NE Ohioan: betray that loyalty. Call it what you will, "doing what is right for me," "looking out for me and mine," etc... LeClown betrayed the fans and that, unlike any other area or fan base in the country draws the unbridled hatred and ire of the fans who for so long have had nothing to show for their loyalty but heartbreak and misery.

It really shouldn't be that hard to put together a winning team in Cleveland because of the insanely dedicated and loyal fan bases (Browns especially). How hard it is, really?

This is why I am so set on them needing to draft Trent Richardson and then a WR at #22. They need offensive playmakers. Period. They need to sign at least one starting WR from FA.

Instead they are signing backup LB to start for them.

I get your frustration, but you aren't going to get "true" (read: loyal) Browns fans to stop being fans by looking at results. If our being Browns fans was based on results, we'd have jumped ship LONG ago...

  • To me being a fan of a team cannot be changed and the Bengals orgAnization is thAnkful for that.

  • I love the Browns.. Give me some playmakers on offense on the draft and watch the team grow in the 2nd yr of the west coast offense

ive always said this an im going to ask you this (even though you said what i always say) what does being loyal get you? being loyal only gets you so far. Just as the saying "nice guy's finish last" me being a die hard indians fan for years an years, what has it done for me? nothing but heartbreak after heartbreak, dumb move after dumb move. Maybe thats it, we as NE ohio fans are to loyal an them organizations know that, as a business man if i know you are going to buy the product regardless, why make it better. Whats the worse you going to do, complain then still buy it. I am all about being loyal but its a fine line in being loyal an dumb (not calling any one dumb, just saying in genaral) an i know when to draw the line.
