  • For those of you who don't think it's an NCAA issue. Read this:

    NCAA Bylaw

19.01.2 Exemplary Conduct. Individuals employed by or associated with member institutions for the administration, the conduct or the coaching of intercollegiate athletics are, in the final analysis, teachers of young people. Their responsibility is an affirmative one, and they must do more than avoid improper conduct or questionable acts. Their own moral values must be so certain and positive that those younger and more pliable will be influenced by a fine example. Much more is expected of them than of the less critically placed citizen.

Has any program ever been punished based on this?

Not trying to be a dick, it's a serious question.

  • This might seem very crude but IF Paterno knew of this situation for FOURTEEN years as has been indicated and IF he continued to look the other way while Sandusky "Poured the bone" to these young innocent boys, then that university is in a world of hurt!
It is a classic case of cover-up and denial in order to preserve the name and reputation of Penn State, the kids being "screwed" in these incidences did not matter as much as the preservation
being saved. Probably like most things, those up on top, hoped it"would go away" and no one whould have to deal with it.! This thing is going to get a whole lot worse before it gets better for PSU and Paterno's name and heritage he left.

  • "until there is "proof" that the football program received illegal benefits tied to this scandal" The benefit was getting to survive as a program.

"NCAA has nothing to base their "death penalty" on" How about this: because they behaved like monsters. Is that enough to base a penalty on?

"This imo was about protecting PSU reputation as a Public University" So,if a Geology professor did what Sandusky did, would they have protected him to save the University? Umm, no -- they would not have. They covered up to protect the football program.

That said, the NCAA may well leave this alone since they are only slightly less skeevy than pedophiles.

  • I know this is an emotional topic and it is obvious my opinion is not adored. That said, I think the NCAA will have a very, very hard time proving anything that they have precedence over. That said, who cares? The University is not going to walk away from this unscathed. Their donations will be effected and the university as a whole is going to get hit in the wallet. That hurts far more than anything the NCAA could do to the Football program. Regardless, I will be shocked if the NCAA has anything to stand on when the dust settles.

You might be right, but the issue here is "HOW MOTIVATED to prosecute Penn State is the NCAA is going to be?"

How do they crucify another school for something like Tatgate if they have to keep explaining why they didn't "get" PSU?

They don't want to answer that question, and they certainly DO want to keep annihilating non-SEC schools for t-shirt and donut violations, so they will come up with SOMETHING, imho.

  • Kick them out of the B1G. Seriously, if the B1G was looking to expand right now, would they give consideration to the situation at Pedo St. and how they handled it?
