Penn State Coaching Options

  • Let's just say Ohio State gets Urban Meyer like everyone thinks. Well, what if Luke Fickell ends up becoming Penn State's new head coach. Crazier things have happened. Even though most of us want Urban as our next head coach, I do not want to be competing against Fickell in the B10.

  • I think no big name coach can coach there. First, who would want to clean up that mess? Second, you are going to have to rebuild PSU (they aren't as good as their 8-1 record says). Third, PSU is going to be sued for hundreds of millions of dollars. Add it all up and it says that PSU will get a middle of the line cheap coach.

  • I feel bad for the guys like Tom Bradley and Larry Johnson who waited in line to move up when JoePa retired and now there is no way in hell that they will be retained. This is assuming that they didnt have any knowledge of the Sandusky issues. I dont think there's any way that Luke would be considered though, there's too many higher profile coaches that would likely be interested. Luke has done an OK job this season but it wasnt like the cupboard was bare fellas.

  • The talk all over ESPN for years has been either Schiano or Golden.....but, do you wanna be the guy to follow Paterno? There are no bigger shoes to fill in all of college football than those!!!!! The shadow he casts over that program will be there for a long, long, long, long time!!

  • Schiano has cooled off a little bit since he was "hot" for bringing Rutgers back.

    If Golden is going to have to weather a sh!tstorm, he might as well do it where he really wants to be.

    Suprised nobody brought up Randy Edsall...sure he's only been at Maryland for one year, but your dream job doesn't open up often.

    While the program is massively tarnished, the PSU job is still a huge job. It is a football-crazy school in a football-crazy state. It might take some time, but PSU will be back.

    Don't worry. Schiano or Golden will get the PSU job. And even if Fickell did get the PSU job, I like our chances bigtime against him and whatever staff he can assemble...especially with Meyer at OSU.

    Why would you be afraid of competing against Fickell? He has proven nothing. Never run an off season, a spring practice, never put his own staff together, etc etc etc - he is still thoroughly unproven.

    That said - I hope he wins out here and gets a good HC job at a MAC level school. Penn State would never hire him. Their position is also not a learn on the job place.

  • I agree on Schiano. I think he turned down opportunities a couple of years ago to wait for Penn State. A gamble, but maybe worth it. Who knows, maybe that's why Tress turned down Miami several years ago...waiting for OSU.

  • Golden would have to be the first choice in my mind. Guy won at Temple, is an Alum and is in a crappy place. Sure PSU may have a cloud over it but that is temporary and they will clean house. PSU >>>>>>>>> Miami

    I think Golden is a good fit and we need PSU to be good. Maybe Mullen after that, only based upon what i have read.

    If hes the first guy they called just think Urban told them...FU. Look hes either coaching OSU or he is gonna be at ESPN. IMO with the young talent we have coming back and the schedule...he'll be a Buckeye. No way he touches that toxic waste dump AKA Happy Valley
