Pittsburgh Destinations For OSU Fans In Town for NCAA

  • OK, we had our advance team do some scouting around the Iron City to see where OSU fans need to be this weekend.

As a general rule, traffic is murder in and around Pittsburgh pretty much all the time. Plan to go early and stay late. I've always found it's bad coming through the tunnel on I-376 and heading in to downtown.

Here are some spots we unearthed (and please feel free to add more if you have others):

Consol Energy Center, where they're playing the games, 1001 Fifth Ave. The Civic Arena is just north of the new arena. Looks like there is parking on all sides (how much I dunno, again, go early and stay late).

Fatheads, 1805 E. Carson St. these next two are on the south side of the river in an area of bars

The Library, 2302 E. Carson St.

Fuel and Fuddle, 212 Oakland Ave., supposedly good sports bar near Pitt campus, about 2 miles east of arena

Buffalo Blues, 216 S. Highland Ave., great sports bar in the Shadyside neighborhood

Mad Mex, 370 Atwood St., great Mexican also near Pitt

Church Brew Works, 3525 Liberty Ave.

Primanti Brothers, original location 46 18th St. in the Strip District, supposedly the original sports bar

Rivers Casino, 777 Casino Dr., supposedly a Las Vegas caliber casino in downtown Pgh. It is located down the street from Heinz Field and PNC Park on the north shore.

That's what I got for you. If you have suggesions or ideas where OSU fans may be, please feel free to share!

  • I can vouch for The Rivers casino. My in-laws live in Wheeling area and I pass two casinos to drive 45 minutes to The Rivers.

  • Spent 4 years in Pittsburgh for dental school. It was terrible living behind enemy lines. Fuel and Fuddle has great food. Hemmingway's is a great bar on Forbes as well. If you do late night in Oakland you HAVE to end the night at the "O". Get a large basket of fries, gravy and cheese to dip and a 40oz of your choice. You won't regret it. If you make it to the Southside, hitting up Carson City Saloon is a must

  • Actually check that, Saturday you have to go down to Station Square for St. Patty's day. Pittsburgh sucks basically because of the steelers but they know how to do up St. Patty's day

  • Good suggestions, keep them coming!!

  • Just realized Im still a member of the OSU alumni Club of Pittsburgh and got an email from them saying they are meeting at
    The Cafe on Fifth
    818 Fifth Ave
    Duquesne University, Pittsburgh, PA
    15219

This is right across from the arena. Hope this incoherent rambling helps

  • Pretty much just stay on Carson St and you will have a damn good time.

"The Dirty O" is worth the trip. If you get a large fries, bring a friend.

  • If you're looking for somewhere to eat, I recommend Big Jim's in the Run.

    http://www.bigjimsrestaurant.com/

It was featured on the Food Network's "Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives" Great italian food.

    201 Saline St
    Pittsburgh, PA 15207

Speaking of enough food to share with a friend, this is the veal parm sandwich "Veal Cutlet ala Parmigiana" on the menu.

  • Game time for Sat will be set real late tonight once they see who wins. My guess is 4, 6 or 8 p.m. Sat.

  • Been here my whole life rooting for the Buckeyes and the Browns! Only one place to go in Pittsburgh... Primanti Bros. It is a Pittsburgh legend. They put fries and coleslaw right on the sandwich! If you don't go there, you haven't been to the Burgh!

  • carson street is a good time. Tailgaters is a hole in the wall next to cambria suites, which is next to consol. Cheap drinks, great staff.

  • Bettis bar and grill is the same as Eddie George's bar and grill. Mulligan's on Carson Street is a Buckeye's bar during football season. There's also a Mulligan's downtown by PNC Park. Agree with Baximus, if you can't have fun on Carson, then you can't have fun anywhere. Kinda similar to Mt. Adams in Cincy, every other establishment is a bar and with Duquesne and Pitt close by, usually some solid talent. If you swing by Carson City Saloon on Carson street, you'll probably run into Dave "The Mustache" Wannstedt. Seem to see him there every time I go. Carson street is right over the Birmingham bridge, $10 cab ride from Consol.

  • Friday night at the Lava Lounge around 20th and Carson (on the Carson street southside area Steve mentioned) has Karaoke and is lots of fun. Cheap drinks and great Karaoke. I would love to see some fellow Buckeyes. Jacks Bar on the southside is home of the world famous "Grape Ape" shot!

Fatheads as mentioned has some some great beer choices and the best sandwiches in the Burgh. Also south side.

Meat and Potatoes downtown in the theater district is a cool happening gastro pub with great food.

If college age or early to mid 20s...go to Hemingways on the Pitt campus for gorgeous Burgh girls! They like us Buckeyes as we are an evolutionary step up from Pitt and PSEeeewww alums!
