We need some none Diggs threads. With the B1G and Pac-12 coming out and potentially supporting a playoff, what are your suggestions for a format? School officials have been talking about a 4 or 8 team playoff. How do you think this should break down?
8 teams no less. No "2nd place" finishers either (i.e. Alabama).
Initially, I liked the idea of a 4 team playoff but the more I think about it 8 teams would be really intriguing. I don't think the B1G would ever go with it but you never know.
- You'd have 5 automatic qualifiers which would be the winners of: ACC, B1G, Big 12, Pac-12, and SEC. Then 3 at large bids. The Big East would have to be left out.
- The highest ranked teams would play at home with the final game being bid out like the Super Bowl.
- They could keep 8-10 of the more prestigious bowls and would be played by teams who didn't make the playoff.
The pros for this is with 8 teams you would have a more legitimate playoff. If someone can't make the top 8 they really don't deserve to be in it. It would also elevate conference play. If you win your league you're in. You don't have to worry about style points or rankings.
