Put in bay or cedar point with the girlfriend?

  • I'm bringing my girlfriend back home with me to meet my family. While we are home there will be a couple days to kill. She has never been to cedar point and I thought it would be neat to take her. Then the more I thought about it it might be more romantic to go soak up some sun and have some cold beverages in Put in Bay. I have never been there but my buddies back in college raved about it. Which do you think she would enjoy? We do like to have some drinks but is there any where on the island where I won't have drunk 21 year olds hanging on her? I've heard some crazy stories about the bars there. I'm 32 she's 29 if ages helps. Thanks in advance.

  • Def cedar point

  • If she likes rollercoasters you gotta go to cedar point. Besides you can always get a room at the hotel breakers and spend time on the beach.

    No question Cedar point.

  • Cedar Point if you were 18. The Bay is where the real party is. Plus, CP is full of scummy Detroit people. Just being honest.

  • Kellys Island is more layd back, you can rent a golf cart ride off together ,stop by the winery, spend time on the beach, the water is too cold yet for me however, I see alot of boats and jet skis on the lake. I think that would be nice for you.,Kalahri is also nice good food, big indoor water park, my son is a lifegaurd there, its close to Cedar Point if you decide to go there.I can see both the islands from my widows we live on the lake and love it up here..Have a great time.

Agreed. I am 22 (guys I was with were in early 30's) and went up to the bay last weekend. Nothing but bars, good views, and food. CP is too busy and more standing in lines than actually riding the rides. I bet you only ride 4 rides on a weekend day. CP is fun, but there are a lot of people acting trashy there.

  • 1st off who in the world would down vote this guy for asking a ? Jerks, yes! +1 to help even it out for you.
Secondly CP is awesome but on a weekend it's a nightmare. PIB is crazy, yet fun but I would go to Kelly's Island. You would fit in better there.

I think you need a combo adventure. Take the ferry to Put in Bay early in the morning, take in all the sights and by noon you will be ready for the secret weapon, a BBQ chicken with a wonderful bottle of island wine, maybe a bottle a piece. Then phase two is take the ferry back to the mainland and onward to Cedar Point. Make sure to hit the coasters right away, especially the ones that shake you up the most. This will guarantee a moment you both will never forget, maybe........ Actually anything along the lake will make a great date for you. Good luck.

  • If you didn't have a girlfriend and were looking for one, I'd say PIB.

As it stands? Easy call: Cedar Point.

See, now this is the proper environment for PIB. If Vegas is not an option, there is no better place than PIB for a bachelor's party. (Well, I'm sure Amsterdam wouldn't be bad either. Ha. But as far as domestic options -- especially those in the Midwest -- can't beat PIB.)

As for Cedar Point, best amusement park in the country. I thought Kings Island was good (I grew up about 40 minutes away from Kings Island). Then I went to Cedar Point for the first time and was blown away. They seriously have like 20 good rides. It's crazy. Try to avoid going on a weekend, although I've heard Sundays in May/June are not that bad. So, if you have to go on a weekend, make it Sunday (and not Saturday) if possible.

I rode Dragster just to say I did it. Was scared standing in line. Ride lasted about 10 seconds. Glad I did it!

  • I just got back from a few days in Sandusky/Port Clinton/Marblehead with my girlfriend (we're the same age group as you). My vote is definitely Cedar Point. The crowds are light until school lets out, and even for the busy days, they have introduced a fast lane pass which allows you to skip all the lines (additional $45 per person).

The extra expense was completely worth it as we hit Millennium Force, Magnum, Top Thrill, Maverick and Raptor all before noon. Literally walked right on them all except Millennium and that was a 10 minute wait.

Plenty of other things to do in the area without heading to the islands too. As mentioned above by another poster, we took in some drinks on the water at TGI Friday's in Sandusky after Cedar Point. We spent the next day picnicking and lying on the beach at East Harbor State Park in Marblehead. We also had dinner at Water Street Bar and Grille on the lake in Sandusky. Good food, and outside seating gave us a perfect view of the sunset. After dinner, we walked literally across the street to a pier and took in the rest of the sunset. There was also a view of Cedar Point from the pier. Girlfriend loved it.

  • I'm from Marblehead and have been back there 2 times in 15 years. The last time I took my wife for the first time 4 years ago to show her around. I tried to show her PIB but only managed to get stuck at the Round House(bar) all day. She enjoyed the music/partying. The next day I took her to CP and the rides blew her away. Since you've stated that you have a couple days to kill try both. Not in the same order as I did unless your girl has a strong stomach!

Who all has been or is going to Christmas in July this year? As a "Newly Single" guy, I have been told that this is the thing to do and that I have been missing out. Would definitely be interested in more info & heading out! Although it appears as though EVERY hotel is already completely booked rant. I'm sure I could figure something out. If any fellow Buckeyes are gonna be there I definitely got you on a beer!

    WhiteGoodman

  • If this is happening before July, I would say go to Cedar Point on a sunday. Sunday crowds are never that bad at CP in May and June, the earlier in the year the better.

Never been to put in bay, and I don't have any excitement to go. From what I understand its a bunch of bars where you can get drunk. I can do that in plenty of places around Cleveland where I live.

Also, keep in mind that CP now offers the fast lane system, where you can pay for much shorter waits in line. They're kinda pricey, $55 for one person, with a slight discount when you buy two or more. But they offer a great benefit, because not only do you get shorter waits and can ride more rides, you can also relax more through the day, take your time and enjoy yourself in the park, take in some downtime on the beach, etc., without having to rush from ride to ride to make sure you get to ride everything you want that day. Just bring a cooler and pack food instead of paying to eat in the park, and in the end it all evens out, as food in the park is EXPENSIVE.

Of course, if you have enough time, you could do both! :-)

I've been going to CP regularly the past 5 years, and this hasn't been my experience at all. I think you're just a tad judgemental.
