  • Indy Star reporting Tress is interviewing for the Colts HC job.

Anyone that has met him knows he is one impressive individual - you know he'll be dynamite in any interview. Doubt he gets it but cool anyway.

Are the Colts set to interview Jim Tressel?
By Phil Richards/Mike Chappell, The Indianapolis Star

Jim Tressel's brief and ancillary role with the Indianapolis Colts might evolve into something more substantial.

Owner Jim Irsay's plane flew Friday morning to Sarasota, Fla., where Tressel owns a home, and returned to Indianapolis later in the day. Multiple sources have said they expect the former Ohio State University coach to be interviewed for the Colts vacant head coaching position, but that could not be confirmed.

The Colts were expected to interview New Orleans Saints offensive coordinator Pete Carmichael Jr. on Thursday evening or Friday, and The Tennessean reported Tennessee Titans defensive coordinator Jerry Gray also was interviewed Friday.

Cincinnati Bengals defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer also has been identified as a candidate to replace Jim Caldwell, who was fired Tuesday.

Also, Irsay said he plans to use the first overall pick in the April draft on a quarterback whether or not Peyton Manning is healthy. The owner believes it would be hard to pass up Stanford's Andrew Luck or Baylor's Robert Griffin III.

"I don't see that," Irsay said Thursday during the taping of an interview with ESPN's Hannah Storm that will be aired Super Bowl week. "With Griffin and with Luck and the way it's shaping up in the top part of the draft, which very likely could go one and two like with Peyton and Ryan Leaf -- it's most likely one of those quarterbacks that you really feel is the best player in the draft, and where we're at moving forward, that you can't pass that up.

"I don't think anyone would expect that."

The Colts picked Manning, the NFL's only four-time MVP, with the first pick in the 1998 draft. Leaf went second to the San Diego Chargers.

Manning is rehabilitating from Sept. 8 neck surgery that caused him to miss the entire 2011 season. He is owed a $28 million option bonus payment on March 8. If the Colts don't pay it, Manning becomes an unrestricted free agent.

Asked directly if it would make a difference if Manning were healthy, Irsay said, "I don't think it would."

Tressel, 59, saw his 10-year stint as Ohio State's coach end in controversy and embarrassment. He resigned May 30 amid NCAA violations that included his unethical conduct.

Tressel had a 106-22 record with the Buckeyes, but 12 wins in the 2010 season were vacated by the NCAA. The Buckeyes won the national championship in 2002. In December, the NCAA hit Ohio State with sanctions, including a one-year ban on bowl participation. Tressel is effectively prohibited from taking another Division I college coaching job for five years.

Despite the controversies surrounding Tressel, the Colts hired him in September. His primary role was as replay consultant on game day, although Caldwell noted Tressel might assume other responsibilities.

The Colts reconsidered Tressel's addition to their staff, and decided to "suspend" him for the first seven games of the season. He first worked for the team Oct. 30 when it visited the Titans.

  • You'd have to be really stupid and live in a cave if you couldn't put this together. You kinda had to think it was coming after he got hired.

I don't think anyone has a problem with honesty. The problem is with using a derogatory term. There are inevitably people on this board - fellow buckeyes - who have family members or friends that are mentally retarded. It's an insult to use the term "retard" the way you did. Not to mention, it's just classless. That's the problem. Not honesty.

Oh, So no one in the history of Bucknuts has never used a derogatory word? No one has ever used that word other than on these message boards? Huh? If you say no I'm calling bullshit!

Way to man up and take some responsibility for making what could have been considered a slip-up, but now instead you sound like a spoiled, selfish, teenager trying to divert attention away from your own actions by pointing out others misdeeds. Good job.

You're right. I was wrong using retard in that sentence, but I'm not sorry for this; Oh, So no one in the history of Bucknuts has never used a derogatory word? No one has ever used that word other than on these message boards? Huh? If you say no I'm calling bullshit!

I thought this was about showing support for PSU since they are our new AAA club for TOSU. They recruit them, we call them up to the big league, and they come running. lol

Not at all. the point was that you were being a jackass for no reason. People were excited for JT, and hopeful that he can get the job.
