RPI Fallout From OSU's Win At Indiana ...

  • Buckeyes moved up 5 spots in RPI from 21 to 16 after the road win at Indiana. OSU's strength of schedule is now 14th -- really good.

Indiana dropped 3 spots from 6 to 9 with home loss.

Both Jerry Palm and Joe Lunardi updated their Bracketologies

Palm moved OSU up from 7 seed to 5 seed, Palm has traditionally had OSU lower than anybody else.

Lunardi moved OSU up from 5 seed to 4 seed

If they beat Illinois on Sunday, they will move from 14th in the AP up to 12 or maybe even 10 or 11 (depending on other losses).

To me, if they can win one game in Chicago they should now be considered for a 3 or 4 seed. We shall see.

  • This was one of the biggest road wins in the entire season in college basketball. Louisville lost at home to Syracuse as No. 1. OSU just won at indiana when they were No. 2.

The postgame ceremonies lasted nearly 90 minutes as each senior and Coach Crean spoke. They presented them a Big Ten championship trophy, took a team photo and cut down the nets. How about that?

Of course, Michigan State had to do the same after Buckeyes beat them last year.

  • Historically it seems the selection commitee do not dramatically reseed teams based on conference championships..at least in the major conferences..

  • The Sagarin computer ratings has OSU at #4 in their politically correct, no points margins considered poll. That's the one that the NCAA committee might look at. OSU is #7 in the pure points version of that poll. That's the one that includes point margins and is the most accurate indicator of how teams might do head-to-head.

edit - for perspective, theoretically #4 would be a 1 seed and #7 would be a 2 seed.

  • Palm was on 700 WLW Monday evening saying that OSU was the most overrated team among the top 20 or so with no quality road wins. He can eat some crow too.

#7 for a team that is #16 in the RPI seems absurdly low. If OSU can finish tied for 2nd or 3rd in conference and manage two wins in the B1G tournament then I have to think they are a solid #3.

  • From AP's Rusty Miller: OhioState has beaten three AP top-5 teams in same season for only fourth time (2011-12, 2006-07, and 1978-79)

Duke and OSU only teams to beat 3 top-5 teams this year

Duke's were Louisville, OSU and Miami

OSU's were Michigan, MSU and Indiana

  • I said on 97.1 the last couple days it was a complete joke for Jerry (Face) Palm to have the Buckeyes as a No. 7 seed. Can't say the Big Ten is the best conference in college basketball and then say one of the best teams in that conference (a team ranked No. 14 in the country) is merely a No. 7 seed. This was all BEFORE the win at Indiana.

    How we lookin' now, Jer?

Saw him on BTN show "Inside the Selection Process." He is a creepy looking and sounding guy on top of his outrageous projections.

Not only that but as the 14th ranked team being a 7th seed isn't that like saying we were only the 25-28 best team in the country?

    Hogwash.

This team is top 10. If they win out (B1G tourney) they are obviosly top 5....

    BuckeyeSteves

  • I think the key to this team is they can change their make up in so many ways. They can play big, small, fast, etc. I think the bucks are that 3-4 seed team this year that higher seeds are nervous to play.

The good news is that his opinion will not really matter. OSU will get a 3 or 4 seed if they beat IL and win 1 game in the BIG Tourny which I think they do both. I will go with a 4 if they only win 1 BIG Tourny game and a 3 if they win 2. They could even get a 2 if they advance to the finals.

The only team in the BIG that has looked consistently better than the Bucks is IU.

I will agree OSU needed to beat KU or Duke this year, and the loss the KU was a tough one at home. That said, this team is no worse than a 4 even if the last game they win before the dance is against IL.

    Palm is a clown.

  • I am sure some of these "experts" do exactly what this Palm character is doing just to get a rise out of people and to draw attention to himself. Nothing more, nothing less.

I do not put too much thought or energy into all of these predictions. A 4-5 seed sounds about right....3 at best. Bring on Illinois and the B1G Tourney people.....

  • the thing about this team is they are dangerous. Craft and Scott playing as a tandem, IMO causes all types of difficulties for opponents - and it's getting [better] as the season progresses. I for the first time this year, think this team will make a run in the ncaa tourney.

    Jagstyle

  • I think we're perhaps one of the most intriguing "rising seeds" because if you look across the landscape of the elites ranked above us I believe we are THE youngest team so the other programs are who they are to a degree at this point in the season where as our ceiling has not be reached yet with so many young guys in the mix and rapidly improving except for one (Amir Williams).

  • I don't get Amir's lack of improvement. Hopefully Rav can step it up the remainder.
