  • this east west format would give Wisconsin or Nebraska a much easier road to the conference championship. I know Penn St. may be down for a few years but you have to think long term. You would put the 3 teams with the best traditions and largest stadiums in the same division. On top of that have us play Wisky every year. Pretty tall task for OSU if you ask me.

They have already split up scUM and tOSU which should show you and everyone what will happen to balance the two divisions. Also, their is no way they put their 3 most premier schools in the same division. Face it, MSU, Wisc and even to an extent Neb are not top dog programs. tOSU, scUM and PSU are all the 3 biggest names in the B10 and they will split them up in some way. Its not longer about "The Game" anymore. They powers that be want the B10 Title game to be "The Game". And the rest of this fan base either joins in that thinking or will be left to rot until enough time passes until you are in the small minority.

    In the end you will get new names and the same divisions just with Illinois moving over and Maryland and Rutgers sliding in.

    The MSU / scUM game will always be played. And when the B1G expands to 16 teams, MSU will probably be in the east.
    Oklahoma and Texas will provide balance as to "top dogs." Just add them to the West and move MSU to the East (with PSU as their rival game at the end of the season).

  • Bax, I don't if you are correct about Penn State being like Indiana for awhile. After OSU and Michigan, PSU has the most highly rated recruiting class in the conference and O'Brien appears to be a very good coach as well as recruiter. I'm beginning to think that PSU is not going to swoon as much as everyone thinks.

    This will work because the top three teams are who the east coast audience wants to see to maximize TV ratings. The only reason you add a Rutgers and Maryland is to broaden the TV audience for the big ten so the network/conference can earn more $$$$. This has nothing to do with putting out a quality product week in and week out
