I don’t post here often but I live in the Raleigh area and I am connected through family to a few of the schools we keep bringing up in the realignment talk UNC, Duke an NC State. I thought I would share some in site into what some of the fan bases and people that work at the university think about this realignment. My wife and father in law are UNC alums and know the former coaching staff for the basketball team so I will start there. They both keep telling me that as long as there is any viable form of the ACC left Carolina will not change conferences. If they do it will be interesting as to who they choose because most Carolina fans hate the SEC but they also distrust northerners (this is still the south). Both my brother and sister in-law are NC State grads and both work in research rolls in the science department at the university. They both want NC State to go to the SEC as soon as possible. Most NC State fans have an elitist mentality, think Alabama with Northwestern’s record, and want nothing more than to upstage UNC. They make is sound like if the SEC offers a spot to NC State they are gone. I also have a good friend that goes to Duke and he told me the other day when we were talking that he and some of his fellow Dukies are hoping that Duke can link up with some of the Big East basketball schools. He seems to think that because of the small football fan base that they will get left behind in all of this realignment mess.
