    PCL - you are correct - I indeed lowered my standards in how I responded to the unnecessary low blows initially thrown my way. When you're out on a limb and mean girls gang up and hurl whatever at your opinion, a little revenge isn't so bad through is it?

I have been critical of this team all year. It is a nice team, but not nearly as good as last year or elite. We have too many holes. If you don't want a downvote from me in the future, make your comments on their play, don't call the players names.

    Exactly. I'm all for differing opinions and lively discussions, but opinions do not = "truth" and this guy got the backlash he got mainly because he was such an @ss about it. And I see nothing has changed.

    Hey outwest...THANKS for remembering me and my post...I DESPISE losing and sometimes the truth hurts and we just dont wanna admit it or see it...I still like this team but I honestly see us only winning 2 games tops in the NCAA tourney...and for me its all coaching thru lack of defensive intensity, a stagnant non-moving offense and zero senior leadership...we can be the best team in the country but we have yet to realize that we are getting everyone's best shot every night...which in winners brings out the best in you...we are sorely lacking that from top to bottom

    I'm not sure I would have posted this thread myself, but I think osuoutwest raises a valid point here: Because we all love tOSU, we sometimes wear blinders where poor performance is concerned. It's easy to love blindly and praise tOSU extravagently. That's a part of every sports fan's DNA. Looking at things in the cold light of day, dispassionately and objectively, is harder for fans. Much harder.

    I think ousoutwest's thread is a great opportunity to reflect on the purpose of a board like Bucknuts. Are we here simply to cheer? Or are we here to share opinions and learn from each other?

    I was tempted in the middle of the football season to post Bucknuts staff predictions of the team's final overall record. Why? Because every staff 'expert' was so obviously overly optimistic. By Game 5, it was clear to me that tOSU was looking at a 7-5 or 6-6 season. But 'expert' opinion on the Front Row and on FRR was still saying 10-2 or 9-3. I no longer live in Ohio, so I chalked up the difference to the Kool-Aid everyone seemed to be drinking in Buckeyeland that I no longer had access to here in Maryland.

    I didn't post the imagined thread because I didn't want to embarrass anyone. But the phenomenon is real nonetheless. Home town fans and home town 'experts' are always way more optimistic than out of town observers. That really shouldn't surprise anyone and I'm not going to argue whether it's valid or not. It is. Not just in central Ohio, but everywhere, for every team, in every sport, among all fan bases.

    So osuoutwest's point seems to me to be: Let's talk honestly and intelligently about the team we all love. To that, I would add "respectfully". Pointing out the problems we think we see and discussing them with others, who may agree or disagree, should be what the board's about. That's good stuff. Name-calling, denigrating others and accusing them of treason, because we don't agree with their opinions, doesn't enlighten anybody and isn't healthy for our board community. It's bad stuff.

    If osuoutwest posted this to pat himself on the back, I can forgive him for that. He got blasted pretty hard and is merely responding in kind, as many of us would.

    But if, as I choose to believe, he did this to point out how embarrassingly badly we can react to honest, objective criticism from a fellow Buckeye fan, I think he did the board a service.

    Here in Washington, there's an old saw you hear in Congress all the time: "We should be able to disagree without being disagreeable". It's a nice-sounding cliche, but it's very rarely employed in the real world. But it should be. Because brains work like muscles -- no pain, no gain. If we never consider opinions that challenge our own, we can never improve our intelligence. Challenging thinking makes a mind stronger. Considering only those opinions we agree with is intellectual masterbation. Like physical masterbation, it rarely creates new life.

    I can be as nasty and venomous as anybody on this board. I know that about myself and struggle with it every day. And I have attacked osuoutwest viciously, more than once, because I felt some of his posts were arrogant and disrespectful of the views of others. So I don't come to this discussion with clean hands myself. But I salute osuoutwest for reminding us that opinions are fair game -- we are free to challenge them and challenge them hard. But personalities aren't. Attacking others personally is destructive to community, not constructive. If, like me, you sometimes do it, please stop. If you don't, but have seen me do it, I apologize. I hope you forgive me.

    When in doubt, punt.

    Glad Im not out of downvotes today! I dont think everyone is on the bandwagon... you went way overboard! We've seen more and have more justification but this team just hit a slump like a lot of teams do. The #1 team in the country most of the year rarely wins the NC. UCONN came out of nowhere last season. OSU has played bad the last few weeks but please keep in mind. They have a very solid group and it doesn't take much to get the train back rolling in the right direction. I'm sure most believe they won't live up to the hype, but it aint over yet. I believe if Buford every finds his game, we can make a good run, but if not.... When is the spring game?

    You're a 2* recruit... it speaks for itself if you ask me!
