Sam Thompson

  • Is it me or is this kid a straight baller? He has some ridiculous hops and just makes dunking look easy. I think my man Sam is really making a push for more playing time. He has the jumper, the floater, but I just love it when he reverse jammed it with two hands behind his head. I know we were only playing Buckwheat Technical Institute but even Jimmy Jackson was throwing out props saying he couldn't get up like Sam.

  • I just posted in another thread, this is my guy for the 2nd half of this year and beyond. Put about 10 or 15 good lbs on him and he will be gold. Jimmy was right last night, it looked like he was still going up on his little reverse dunk. And the 17ft jumper or so, looked solid. If he picks it up defensively maybe a bit more, i would almost consider starting him instead of Lenzelle, i think he might be a little better now offensively, just maybe needs a bit more confidence on that end. But VERY excited about his future.

  • He's definitely fun to watch. I think his biggest advantage over Lenzelle Smith Jr is his length. He definitely bothers shooters a lot more than Lenzelle. He blocked at least one jump shot last night and influenced a few more. Our two biggest weaknesses as a team are 3 point shooting and athleticism. We have a lot of good athletes, but Thompson and Weatherspoon are freak athletes. I think Thompson works his way into the rotation soon, if not the starting lineup.

    That's kinda what I was thinking because as good as Lenzell is, Thompson is better. Thompson would be a hard cover for most any 2 guard in the country. When DeShaun gave him that bounce pass the Buckeye's bench was on their feet before he threw it down. Thompson is a silky smooth shooter too. I'm happy because we are freakin deep! I thought it was really saying something when Jim "grown ass man" Jackson was gushing over him.

    Thompson is the next great one at OSU. His quickness, his length, explosiveness is exceptional. Love his attitude as well. But Smith makes so much happen, very disruptive on defense, strong rebounder and offensively his passing is on point. Great one two punch. Thompson will make us forget about Buford next year.

    Very excited about him. At the beginning of the year I was concerned about athleticism in the starting five. This kid getting more reps is great as far as I'm concerned. I think he has better range and a better all-around game than Weatherspoon.

  • Dude is a complete beast. Wouldn't be surprised if he is really pushing Buford for more playing time by the end of the season.

  • The kids definitely got game. The reverse dunk was sick, so was his block of the attempted layup. On the replay it look like he blocked it with his forearm. Sam's got hops for days and I see him getting quite a bit more pt.

    Whoa, slow down there. Will is the best 3 pt shooter on the team, a senior leader and he's got a killer mid range game. He's been a little inconsistent lately, but the kid is still really good.

  • Kid plays HARD...hustles and moves his feet on D...moves ball on offense, does not jack shots...alot to like about Slammin' Sammy...we're only gonna play 7-8 guys in the Big 10 season and he should be in the rotation getting 15 mins per game or so.

    I've thought about this as a potential line up being an athletic nightmare for other teams in the B1G. This is the Bdigitty super athletic squad that I think could be a big matchup problem for everybody we play when we need to rest Lenzell and Buford:

    1. Aaron Craft
    2. Sam Thompson
    3. Spoon
    4. DT
    5. Sully

    There are three dudes in that lineup besides Sully who can crash the boards and step out to guard guys with quickness at the 3 point line.

  • Have Cheese out front running things, Sully on the low post, Sam thompson cutting and weaving coming off screens, DT kinda standing at the 3 point line waiting for Sully to be double-teamed, and Spoon ready to fly in and slam it home in case off a miss, i like it haha.

    Buford is a senior, he should be consistent by now. It seems like he always has a tough time in big games. Thompson already has more athletic ability then Buford and is a better defender, if they were both freshmen Thompson would be starting. IMO Sam is going to have a much better career then Buford has, the kid is just a stud.
