Scott or Thompson, who starts next yr?

  • C - Willams Ravanel
    PF- Thomas Ross McDonald
    SF- Thompson Ross Sibert
    SG- Smith Sibert
    PG- Craft Scott

    Or
    SF- Smith Thompson Ross Sibert
    SG- Craft Sibert
    PG- Scott Craft

We can def run up tempo with these players and we could play big and possibly play some zone deff I know matta hates zone but we have some length Williams,Thomas & Ross & Thompson who could block done serious shots in zone

Start Scott or Thompson that is the question and it could change depends on match ups

    I would start Thompson

  • What about playing Ross at 4, Thomas at 3, and bringing Scott and Thompson off the bench? Those two guys just cannot score the ball. Losing Buford and Sullinger, we need to bring in someone who has some offensive skill. With Ross being able to score, and create his own shot, I think we will get more production. I can't wait to see what that kid can do. Hopefully, Scott and Thompson can improve their offensive games, because they are two of the worst shooters I have ever seen at the college level for their positions. Scott was something like 1 for 18 from 3 before the NCAA tourney last time I checked. He needs to improve.

  • Neither Scott nor Thompson start next season. I like them both to log minutes, but neither start.

    BuckeyeSteves

  • Isn't Sibert transferring to Dayton?!?

I agree, except I would keep Thomas at the 4 and Ross at the 3.

Unless Thompson's offensive game really improves in the off-season we need someone who can shoot. I know people rag on Buford but his offensive game was light years ahead of Thompson and Scott. Ross really is an unproven commodity, but so was Lenzelle coming into the season when everyone thought for sure Sibert would be ahead of him. Ross needs to step up and take that open spot left by Buford.

If Ross is anything like we hope he is I kind of love the lineup of

    Craft
    Lenzelle
    Ross
    Thomas
    Amir

That is a solid starting 5, with Scott, Thompson, and Ravenel off the bench.

  • I agree with most of what you guys are sayig but imagining deshaun trying to defend an opposing teams power forward is making me ill, his defense HAS to improve. But with that said, how good a defender is Laquinton Ross? That remains to be seen.

I agree with this, I believe this will be a strong starting 5 with Thompson, Scott and Ravenel. I hope Sibert works hard and gets his shot back, then he could be in the mix as well.

Old gray man just ain't what he used to be ain't what used to be.

  • Yes I agree with most.

Starting 5 of Craft, Smith, Ross, Thomas, Williams.
Bench players are Scott, Thompson, Ravenel.

We are unlikely to see Sibert, McDonald, and Weatherspoon unless it is a blow out or in dire need of bodies because of foul trouble.

Perfect... Thomas is not a 3 and Ross is not a 4. I have the same starting 5 in my head. This is also considering we don't land Tony Parker or any bigtime recruit who could have an impact on the starting lineup. Ross will be the best pure scorer on the team next season if he takes care of things and has the right attitude. He can shoot and create his own shot. Thomas can't create his own shot by taking someone off the dribble. This is a solid lineup though, we could a 20 game winner again with it.

  • I wouldn't say Thompson isn't a scorer yet. His athleticism makes him a good slashing type player. He may not be a great shooter right now, but given another off season I could see him being an 8 ppg guy.

    luthershot 8

  • 1 Craft
    2 Ross - guards a big 4 or small 3
    3 Thomas - guards a small 4 or non-mobile 3
    4 Thompson - guards a 2 or 3 slasher
    5 Williams

Thompson can shoot at least as good as Smith. Smith did not have the green light until he had played for awhile. Thompson has not had that opportunity, unless you count burying your elbow in the basket. Unless Smith stops flinging the ball he will never become a shooter. Only a few good shooters in history have managed to take the ball above their head and flick it toward the basket, and even they were streak shooters. One night Smith's shot had an arc and the next night it was a laser beam.

BTW, I still think Scott transfers. It's hard for me to imagine his dad watching him play behind Craft, Smith, Thompson, and Ross for at least two more years. He wants to play, not be regarded as "the first man off the bench." If he stays he will have to improve his game drastically to become a pro. IMO, he will not have the PT to do that as one of 5 quality guards (and possibly Hood), each of whom has NBA aspirations as well. And are bigger.

I am probably wrong, but I think father and son are weighing options as we speak. My guess is ACC, but I have been known to be wrong (LOL).

This starting line up is my hope and expectation.

I also expect Thompson the make a big leap offensively.
