OSU coach Thad Matta announces that sophomores Jordan Sibert and J.D. Weatherspoon will pursue transfer opportunities. Their departures leave OSU with 9 scholarship players.

  • How unfortunate. Lets see, we lose Weatherspoon and Seibert and retain Shannon Scott. That is ridiculous! Weatherspoon and Seibert played only a fraction and will probably score more than Scott will his entire career. I really do not understand the love affair with Scott. I know, I know I am not at practice but I have watched every game and Scott has contributed ZIP and is a total liablity. I do not care if he was a Macdonalds All American , everyone saw what he did this year which was nothing. I appreciate what coach Matta has done for the Bucks but I totally disagree with the handling of these two players this year. He will certainley be able to employ his strategy of only playing 5 - 7 players because that is all we will have. Very disappointing! Something must be going on that we are not privy to. I believe both of these guys can contribute. Someone is going to be very happy getting them. Offit contributed nicely for Ohio U. I believe these two will do the same for some team.

  • This is the consequences of only playing 2-3 guys off your bench each yr.

  • Lol at tearing into Shannon Scott. You'll be all about him after next year. Book it.

Just remember that after last season, most of us probably thought we could play better then smith jr. He was soooo bad anytime he got mop up time. Now look at him...

Shannon will get an offseason to work with our AWESOME staff and it'll make a huge difference.

  • Adolphus Washington can play some ball.

    What about Taylor Decker?

  • I look at all these other schools in the big 10 pulling in the blue chip players but it seems as if Matta has fallen off maybe its just me?

I agree 100% ... I was frustrated all year as to why Scott was playing ahead of Sibert. We were desperate for 3 point shooters where Sibert would have been a big plus.

JD was an energy guy who should have played more IMHO.

Sullinger should have stayed one more year and worked on his longer range shooting game. His NBA career will be tarnished by not doing so. All three of these guys should be back next year, not just for the team/s benefit, but htheir own.

I blame the coaches. They sure lack in giving sound advice to these young men. Too bad.

  • Is it just me or do these kids these days have no morals? When I make a commitment to something, I'm there. I don't quit. I don't ask to be transferred to another group. Whether I like it or not, or my team mates like it or not...they get 100% from me. Sleep in the bed you make...you made the decision to play for tOSU...stick to your pledge. Honor your commitment...be a man.

All this does is leave Matta short-handed. I don't care if he only plays 7 guys normally. Never heard of injuries? I mean, if these kids were going to transfer, they should have let Matta know long before now. That way, he could have recruited a player or two instead of scratching his head in the 11th hour wondering if he'll take a reach on someone or just hope nothing happens to any of the remaining players for next season.

  • Hey, we either lose them to the NBA or other schools. They were good enough to offer a schlarship but not talented enough to play, then why the schoarship?
I don't blame Sibert and JD --- they were too talented to be used as practice fodder!
I admire their exit statements and hope they both are successful at impacting their next teams. Somebody screwed up!!

  • The negative comments on Scott are crazy! Sibert and JD were always going to be reserves, you can only play five at once, might as well play the best. Scott will bring an entire new offense to have to defend. Playing a two guard system at times will be a a nice change up. We will be fine, Ross is going to be player next season, Sam Thompson will continue to improve as well. We're good.

+1. The kids today are a different breed. If Matta had puilled their scholie, they would be WTF? But no, a commit this day and age means nothing....I agree, no old school kids and sad to say, I wish them well but one day they will learn what a commit actually means....I am old school and stick to my word, most don't. Good luck Mr Siebert and Witherspoon.

  • Man, I'm reading a lot of whiny comments. Yes, most of the back-ups didn't score and possibly there will be a learning curve for some to pull it together next year. I have confidence in coach Matta and his staff and their ability to coach. I think by the end of the season we'll be one of the best teams in the league. I will agree though that Shannon Scott will have to score more. I'm curious if he'll play with Craft or Lenzelle or ? I think we'll kick butt!

    Seriously?

Jordan Sibert is a 6'2.5" swing man. That is what he is and always was. Defensively, he can't handle most 2s...not now. Offensively, he is best when he gets in the lane and to the rim, but his handle isn't sufficient at this level. His shot is pretty to watch, but he has never been an adequate 3 point shooter. That's a fact. A game or 2 of getting hot doesn't make a shooter at this level. In summary, he has not played adequate defense and doesn't have an offensive game that translates to effectiveness for this team.

Weatherspoon is a 6'4" power forward. He cannot yet dribble or pass at this level. Enough said.

That said, both could have been contributors off the bench by their Senior years. They want to play now and start. Both are better off elsewhere.

As for Scott, his upside is WAY higher than either of them. His quickness with the ball is top tier. He needs to pick up his D quickness/urgency and needs to pass with authority to cut down his TOs. The shot is a bonus, if he develops a 3. If he can develop a good 18 feet and in O game, he'll help us tremendously.

    Go Bucks!

My thoughts exactly, with 9 players next year that means that only 2-3 players will have to sit on the bench and never see playing time.

  • It's probably a good move by these kids to look else-where. Weatherspoon would have been a quality back-up at the 4 spot his whole career and there is nothing wrong with that in my book. I think he realized if he wanted more PT than he would have to go elsewhere.

Sibert is a bit of a interesting case. Was a solid contributer at the beginning of the season and never progressed. He is definitely not the answer to our shooting woes behind the arc and his defense wasn't really that good. He is behind Craft, Scott, Smith, Thompson and I would assume Ross. Probably a good dicision for him too.

I don't understand all the hate for Matta and Shannon Scott. These guys would have transferred anyway even if they got a little more PT down the stretch. They are behind 2 or 3 guys at their respective positions. Scott is a great defender, much better than Sibert and isn't really needed to score all that much at his position. All Coach Matta did was lead the team to a Final 4 birth.

Good Luck to these two young guys. I hope they find a good school and become solid contributers.

    Go Bucks!!
