Smith: "Buckeye's won't turn down bowl bid"

  • About the smartest thing Gene has said in 8 months.

    Go Bucks!

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP)—Ohio State athletic director Gene Smith doesn’t know if the NCAA may still prevent the Buckeyes from going to a bowl game this season. But if allowed, the school intends to go.

There has been speculation that the NCAA may hand Ohio State a bowl ban. College sports’ ruling body is still deciding Ohio State’s penalties for several instances of players accepting improper benefits and coach Jim Tressel playing ineligible players. Tressel was forced out on May 30.

In text messages exchanged Tuesday with The Associated Press, Smith said that if permitted to go to a bowl, Ohio State would definitely make the trip. Schools sometimes surrender bowl trips to soften NCAA sanctions.

  • turning down a bowl bid just admits guilt.

It's like OJ driving down I-5.....ok, maybe SLIGHT exaggeration.

  • That's probably a directive from Urbs. Urbs knows the team needs the additional practice time.

  • Bowl bans are stupid. Why not just fine the school? All you are doing is taking money from them anyhow. At least this way you wouldn't be punishing kids that did nothing wrong.

They gave back the money from last year's bowl anyhow.

This team needs additional practice time ONLY with Urban Meyer as their coach. How much additional practice time is needed to run the Dave play 15 times a game into an eight man front?

Then again, Brewster could use some additional practice time to work on shotgun snaps, Shugarts could use some more practice time to learn the snap count, Jordan Hall could use some more experience running the wildcat, Travis Howard needs additional time to learn how to play 10 yards off his man, Klein, Sabino, Moeller and OJ need to practice not getting off blocks, taking bad angles, and perfecting their arm tackling technique. I guess four years of practice hasn't been enough for these guys, all from the "Great Recruiting Class of 2008" except Moeller and possibly Hall. I can't wait for all of them and their memorabilia trading classmates to be done. Sorry to be so personal but it's time for everybody to move on after this disaster of a year, both on and especially off the field.

Yeah, more practice time is just what this team needs.....just in time to get waxed by Iowa State in the Texas State Fair Ticket City.Com Bowl because we're too bad to play in the Little Caesar's Detroit Ice Storm Bowl against the MAC west champion. Unless Meyer starts coaching right away, just get the season over with.

But can you imagine how unstoppable we can be if we DO figure out how to run the Dave play into an eight man front AND get at least five yards every time!

man it's hard not to feel similiar to you, but I think you're being a little hard on the kids. it comes down to coaching and youth (overall) and this team is just down in those terms.

  • This season is lost all for the exception of the Michigan game for our typical rivalry bragging rights. What bowl would we go to, that even matters? Who wants to go to the Meinke Insight Bowl for example and play in December? Wow! Fun times.

I say it is in our best interest to self impose a bowl ban and begin rebuilding for 2012 right away. IMHO

  • If we lose to Michigan, and it's an embarassing loss, I would rather at 6-6 stay home, and not embarass ourselves at some weird mid December, "Grandpa's Barbaque Road Kill Bowl, in Pineville Ky aganist Northwest-Southeast Tech. winners of the Polecat League. Lets get it overwith and move on to follow our great basketball team, and be done wht the Fickell Finger of Fate!.
