Take it for what it's worth: ND site claims T.Decker is "solid"

  • Notre Dame Football: Offensive Lineman Taylor Decker Remains Solid in Commitment

Ever since Urban Meyer took over the Ohio State job in November, he has been a nuisance to Notre Dame. Meyer picked off two coaches from the Irish staff earlier this week and he has been trying to poach a couple of commits in Notre Dame’s recruiting class.

One of those has been Taylor Decker, an offensive lineman prospect Butler High School in Vandalia, Ohio. Decker was one of the first Irish commits in this class announcing Notre Dame as his school of choice back in March of last year, two days after Tee Shepard said he was going to play football at the university.

Talk in recent days has said that Decker was swaying on his commitment with Meyer showing a renewed interest and Tim Hinton and Ed Warinner both expected to head to OSU. Both coaches were recruiting Decker while they were at South Bend.

On Thursday though, Decker locked in on his commitment to playing football in South Bend over the next four seasons.

** Received a text message from Taylor Decker that he's solid in his Notre Dame commitment after the departures of Tim Hinton and Ed Warinner.

Losing a commit at this time just about a month out of National Signing Day would have been a tough pill to swallow for Brian Kelly and his staff, especially if it meant Decker going to Ohio State. That won’t be the case however and Decker will be at least the third offensive lineman that the Irish will be adding to the roster come September. ND is still in on a couple of o-line prospects in this class.

Decker has all the makings of being a cornerstone left tackle in the coming future. At 6’8, he is still growing and adding the necessary weight to be a college caliber tackle. Zach Martin is heading into his final season at left tackle and with some uncertainty on the right because of Taylor Dever graduating, Decker might play early on in his career.

    Stay tuned.

  • If he's as in love with these coaches as was being rumored, this one's still not done. You don't tell the recruiting sites that you are wavering unless you want to create a shitstorm for yourself.

  • I doubt he switches, but everyone is 'solid' until they change their mind.

  • Hopefully Hinton and Warinner can get him on the phone. I think that could change a lot of things, since he said they were the main reason he committed to Notre Dame. If they can pitch it, they could sway him. I don't think we've heard the last of this one.

  • you never know, but IMO I think he will put on the S&G when all is said and done!

  • yeah hes staying with nd. in reality it was just osu fans that suggested he might switch.

  • Decker's MAIN reason for committing to ND was Notre Dame and what it offered as an educational opportunity and college experience (and the experience at ND is very unique indeed). With that said, he really liked both Ed Warinner and Tim Hinton and they were also strong reasons he committed to ND. As a University he is still very committed to ND, however the question mark is who ND brings in as replacements for Warinner and Hinton. Chuck Martin, now ND's Offensive Coordinator and currently the recruiting coordinator, visited Taylor Decker yesterday and assured him they would bring in very good coaches reassuring Decker, but I think that question mark is still a little in his head.

Other than ND being a private Catholic school, what's so unique about it?

  • The rats are literally back flipping off the ship! Kelly is a lunatic! His players know it, the ND fan base knows it, and worst of all, the assistant coaches know it. Why would you jump aboard a sinking ship?

  • I've been to south bend for 1 came in my life and I was not overly impressed but I would assume it is a special place to go to school and their degree is probably worth more than an osu degree.

I know people will likely down vote me for saying that but it stands up there with Stanford in terms of reputation.
