Duane lets you know the 10 players left on the board in the Class of 2014 that Ohio State needs to corral to make this the haul they want and NEED ...
Our quarterback does front flips, suck it.
Great stuff as usual Duane!
Nice read --- when is the next big recruiting weekend for OSU?
I agree about the QB situation. If we needed a QB to come in and play right away I would probably go with Allen or Darlington. The fact that Harris would have a minimum of two years in the system before we might need him to play is why I have him #1 as well. Imagine how much different Pryor or Miller would have been if they could have redshirted and spent a few years in the program before they stepped on the playing field. Unfortunately, in the Tressel era QBs didn't have that luxury.
Thanks Duane! I always enjoy your analysis!
Thanks Bax, i am not as optimistic about 2014 as you, i will be thrilled if we have a top ten class. However i feel you are dead on with the BIG embarrassing itself with the draft. Nebraska, Ped st., Scum, and tOSU are four all time greats and not one of them had a firstrounder. I think tOSU was the only one of them with a 2nd rounder. As a conference we have to recruit better.(obviously Scum & tOSU recruit pretty well)
I piss excellence.
Duane, No mention of DL?
Great article Duane but I am a little confused on Kyle Allen and your choice as he being the best pick for the Bucks. Everything you said went against your choice. And it makes me a little worried about Allen being the one they select. It just seems, as you said, that he doesn't fit the mold Coach Meyer is looking for. One of the things I love about us versus SCUM is that they keep recruiting pro style QBs, tell them it's a great idea. They also keep recruiting OL, almost to the thinking they are taking them so we can't! Good, we will continue to recruit great DE that will beat their tackles to the QB.
And last, we do have Barrett to take over for Braxton when that time comes. In the end, as you do, we should trust this coaching staff.
I hope offensive linemen is our first priority. Our playmakers won't do much without blocking.
duane, you nailed it as usual.
OL is a dire need imo. not sure the obsession some have with LB again when we lose 4 very good linemen this yr. and depth is not real good.
duane, one last thing. first of all, accuracy and smarts are just or more important than arm strenght at the college level, but allen's film reminded me a lot of tim couch as far as arm strength. almost all his throws on that video were soft line drives. never saw a bullet in traffic so to speak. now I know we are looking at him at the college and not nfl level at this time like I said, but is his arm good enough for you?
thanks and great insight and honesty as usual.
I've been saying for quite a while that we need to land two juco olinemen and we had better hope that the two we landed in the last class develop quickly so they can hopefully provide quality depth for 2014.
I also agree that landing one stud hback and one stud wingback are crucial as is one or two big split ends.
Defensively I want one stud wsde Raekwon and Booker at lb and a couple of more DB's. As for qb I want the best possible athlete and leader that urban can find.
Your reversal of field on QB choice was surprising...that's all I will say about that. My faith in the coaches is that he must be developing athletically as he gets older and his throwing must be so good ithat they are willing to accept his limitations running.
Luatua + Lattimore would be such a windfall of elite, versatile athletes it makes me giddy to even consider it.
Happy Cinco de Mayo! Margarita time for PCL

Duane, As always you do an Excellent job of evaluating young talent!! I think you GET IT on Allen. Great to have you BACK and hope all is well with you.
Agree with you Duane that it's a south and west trend (hence osuoutwest). The population stats don't lie. I agree, in general, that it helps greatly to have a personality for a coach or a niche system (Leach) to attract out of state talent. Why didn't Iowa or Minny aggressively pursue Leach? (Maybe Minny did?) Good question.
Duane, with all due respect, I think your reasoning on the three QB offers is a little tortured. Of course UFM runs a spread, and of course run-threat QBs are important in the spread philosophy. But that ain't all there is to successful QB play, yet you pretty well trashed Kyle Allen because you think Harris and Darlington are better runners.
Tom Herman has recruited Kyle Allen and he offered him. He must have seen something -- like throwing mechanics, footwork, intelligence, leadership, competitive spirit -- that convinced him he could play at tOSU. [Maybe Herman even likes his running]. That's plenty good enough for me.
'We are attacking that like animals right now.'
It is not just people movement down south, TV covers pretty much all conferences now with Thursday and Friday night games, goodness the games on Saturdays across ESPN, ABC, Fox, CBS, the Big Ten Network and etc.
Public perception kills the Big Ten, as does getting pounded in bowls.
The Big Ten is 1-11 in Rose Bowl's this 2000 era, only OSU has won. OSU is the only team to really stand up and be accounted for in most of their BCS bowls.
UofM losing to Toledo, App State and being a soccer ball OSU kicks around, and MSU does as well the last five years, has really set them back.
Notre Dame and Michigan getting embarrassed by Alabama, as did an 11-1 MSU in the Capitol One bowl, it is easy to see.
Those are facts, plain and simple.
Outside of Urban Meyer, there is not a big name coach in the Big Ten.
You can bet when Texas tells Mack Brown bye bye, they get a brinks truck and get a big name coach to turn them back around.
Kiffin might have one more year, and then Haden will bring in someone like Jack Del Rio, there will not be career .550 coaches like Hoke hired at Texas and USC next go around. Heck, even UCLA hit a home run with Mora, a proven NFL coach.
