The Christmas Gift You Most Remember!

  • Ok, its getting nearer and nearer that time....I was wondering last night what was the individual Christmas gift, I ever received, that I most remember.....now I am not just talking a physical gift here.....many spiritial gifts have also been received....
    Here is mine(as I recall):

It was probably the Christmas of 1947 or 48,. I was an 8 year old, snottty nosed kid that wanted a police squad car that I had seen in the department store window. Now this was not just any police car...it was long and black, with doors that opened, a flashing red light on top, and a real loud siren that really sounded like the real thing.....as I recall you could even turn the headlights on......but I knew I could not get it for Christmas as I had quit believing in Santa Claus a couple of years earlier when my brother told me 'he is not real..its our parents that bring the gifts"..Dang it....I wanted to believe!
Now I knew my folks had no money...Mom could not work becasue of really bad Arthritius, and Dad was a fireman on the Railroad, and was gone most of the time....we did not even have a car... a lot of my clothes were given to us by a couple in our church that had a boy about my size, and a lot of money and the woman liked me and my brother.....as I recall my parents were helped a lot by my Mom's rich Aunt who lived in Columbus with her husband, and loved us boys!
Anyway...all I could think of was that police car, and Christmas Eve came and my brother and I both were put to bed and I was just at that brink of falling off to sleep when I heard a police siren outside....my brother said, "relax Jimmie, its just a police car up on High Street", and I did and fell off to sleep....in the morning when I raced down to the tree...there it was in all its glory the police car.......man was I happy...later that morning I asked my Dad..."did you test the siren last night? He admitted with a laugh that he had taken in out in the back yard and tested it. I found out some years later that my rich aunt and uncle had given Mom and Dad the money for it.....great memories.......as i have stated in other posts..my Mom and Dad are now home wiht the Lord, both almost reaching the age of 94....they did give me more than physical gifts in their lifetime.....as they were wonderful parents of a deep Christian faith....and that probably is my real greatest Christmas Gift of all-time!

  • 1. A Cleveland Browns helmet I could actually wear to play football with my friends. man, we played a ton of tackle football.

    2. the original paint gun.. A "gotcha" gun, came with paint pods...It was plastic and crap but at the time a hot toy

as I get older, I was honored as Teacher of the Year in 2011. I got to give a speech to the entire district, school boards etc..pushing 500 people and I emphasized, the greatest gift my parents ever gave me was the gift of : TIME. Time to play (with friends, catch with dad, etc) time to think about things when I was grounded or punished, time to be independent, time to talk, time to grow and let me be myself. thats what I try to emphasize to my kids...

  • I would say a slot car racing set. I loved that game.

  • I would say either the Ninja Turtles blimp or my NES. Both were fantastic! Dave right and Dave left always worked for Bo Jackson in Tecmo Bowl!

  • Maybe not my favorite gift of all time but the one I remember the most was my first snowboard.

I was 12 or 11..my neighbor was getting one also for Christmas. So we both did some snooping when our parents were out of the house and located our boards. We both ride "goofy footed" so we took the boards out of their boxes and se the bindings to the correct settings which took an hour and then we placed them back into the boxes. Christmas Eve night comes, we had a good 4-6 inches of snow on the ground all ready and a storm was coming through that night and Christmas Day, so we met up around midnight in my yard (I grew up back in Western PA, plenty of hills to ride on) after we nicely "unwrapped" our gifts with leaving no signs of tampering and rode our new boards for about 2 hours before going home. After getting home, we both cleaned our boards and "rewrapped" them back into the original wrapping paper. I became an expert at this..lol. The new fallen snow completely covered our tracks. Years later I told my Mom about it and she laughed and couldn't believe we pulled it off.

I remember when I found out there was no Santa too...I was in the 6th grade or so. I was pulling my older sister's pig tails and annoying the Hell out of her when she turns around and goes "you realize there's no such thing as Santa, right?" Shocked, I look at her and reply, "so does this mean the Easter Bunny doesn't exist too?" LOL

  • Mine was probably an Ulitimate Warrior wrestling buddy and the Eliminator TS-7. Still have the wrestling buddy. Sold the Eliminator in a garage sale when I was a kid. Have been looking everywhere for one for the last 5-10years. Finally found one this year, still working, and with the original box. I was pumped!

  • 12 years old and I got my first shotgun. Mossberg 12ga with a deer barrel. My dad hid it behind the couch like Christmas Story until all the other presents were opened. Still have that gun 25yrs later. Always will.

  • That's easy. I was 10 yrs old and we had opened all the gifts under the tree and started on stockings. At the bottom of my stocking, the very last gift to open, was an envelope. I was thinkin', "Cool, money.", and just about peed my pants when I opened it up and found 2 Rose Bowl tickets. Ohio State played USC and my Dad and I flew out to LA for the Rose Parade and the Rose Bowl game. Hopalong Cassady and Jim Parker were on that team. Ohio State won and won the National Championship. Never forget New Year's Eve about 9:00 PM and some drunk screamed out the hotel window, "The hell with California, it's New Years in Columbus!" I thought that was hilarious at the time. ..............guess you had to be there.

  • Memorable gifts given to me included my red wagon when I was five (the thing was sorely abused), my surfboard as a 6th grader in Hawaii :) !! and a trombone the following year (so I wasn't playing the ratty, dented, rusted, bent school loaner). But my favorite gift of all was marrying the love of my life on a gorgeous, sunny day in London, England, two days before Christmas 27 years ago. Interestingly, aside from the latter ..., I didn't have any unwrapping to do.

  • My parents gave me many memorable Christmas gifts, but the one that stands out the most is Christmas of '96 when i was 11 yrs old. I woke up around 7:00AM to find a dark green GT Interceptor Bicycle, i had wanted that thing all year. It had to be at least $300. A close 2nd would be 2011 when my girlfriend and I were on a royal carribbean cruise and she surprised me with a $450 Citizen Eco-Drive watch. Its the greatest watch I will ever own and I have worn it every day since.

  • I once received the Bat Mobile. You could sit in it and steer going down hill. Early seventies. I wish I still had it, it's probably worth a fortune.

Hell yeah. I always wanted the aircraft carrier, but I think it cost around $100 back then which my parents never would have spent. The thing was over 7ft long and could probably hold every G.I. Joe character and vehicle on it's deck.

    Man I loved those toys...
