This yr bb team vrs last year ???

  • Many keep saying we miss a shooter like threeiebler however he was a liability on defense .this team is more efficient and plays better team def.

Also do u think the field is a bit weaker this yr? Plus we just got better draw as far as match ups go.

  • Overall last years team was better. We've gotten a pretty good draw so far plus last year our worst shooting game of the year hit in the tourney. I think well still take Kansas though but Kentucky will be tough

Jon was not a big of defensive liability as u think. He was a great help side defender. The liabilty last year is still here this year and it's sully

  • Last Year's team was better.
Despite last years lost in the Sweet 16, most still felt that the Buckeyes were the most talented team top to bottom. Still got a first place vote after the season was over and number one was crowned.

He was a huge liability he did help well but when he was matched up with a good team all they had to do was take him off the dribble because he was not quick enough and ppl would break us down. Having craft start this yr helps and sully can play good def I think he takes off sometimes to avoid foul trouble. Thomas has improved on defense but we need him and sully to play great deff to win.

  • This yeas team has played a much more difficult schedule than last year so I think it's hard to compare.

But, not relying on the 3 helps in March. I think this year's team would beat last Year's team right now, to be honest.

  • It's a tough argument. It really comes down to whether or not this year's Thomas is better than having Diebler? You also have to compare Lighty to LSJ... no comparison there during the season IMO but LSJ has been a gamer in the tourney. I would probably go with last year's team but it is definitely close. I like how Diebler gave us an outside threat that we don't really have right now. Both teams miss a dominant post defender which is what will be our downfall if we play UK again.

  • It took me until this weekend to get past my belief that last year's team could have won it all. I thought we'd take a step back this year without Diebler and Lighty. Whether it's the field, the draw, or whatever, it doesn't matter. This year's team has made it an entire weekend further into the tournament.

Whatever scoring we got from Diebler last year, and don't get me wrong, I love Diebler, but D. Thomas has more than made up for. He has become a beast, and his emergence is why I believe we can win it all. If L Smith Jr or Buford steps up and everyone plays their games, I think we can win the next two.

Great question, though. Last year's team won the conference outright and the Big Ten tournament, but it's hard to argue with the Final Four!

  • With the way this team is playing right now, i am wondering if we arent better than the 2007 national team. Craft, thomas, and sully are playing lights out right now. If we see kentucky in the next round (which we will) experience will prevail...

Its funny that you started this post. I was just thinking this morning how this team stacks up to some of our other strong teams in the modern era. I think last years time might have a slight edge but it could go either way. I think this team is comparable to the 99 team and to the 10 team, with a slight edge, but there are two teams that I think might be better. The 07 team would give this team fits and the 80 team was loaded with nba players and stubbed their toe in the sweet sixteen. Those would be the tops in my mind. For those of you that don't remember the 80 team (which broke my heart), I would be glad to elaborate.
I also would compare this team to the 91 and 92 teams. So many choices:)

  • Hard to say really if the field is weaker this year. That said, I will say without question last years team was better than this one. Doesn't mean this team cannot win it all, but last years team was better.

By the way, on the Diebs comment, what people don't understand when they simply view the games is what he created for other players. He was not the best defender, but he more than made up for that on the other end. Teams ALWAYS had to know where he was on the court which opened things up for other players. He was a HUGE asset for that team.

I love this team but...no. That 2007 team would mop the floor with any team currently in the FF right now including Kentucky. Greg Oden dominated Al Horford and Joakim Noah, what do you think he would do to Anthony Davis? Like I said before, the only reason that 2007 team didn't have a NC is because they were basically playing a NBA team with senior level experience.
