Three Quotes that reveal a lot (in a Lesmerises article)

  • Eck said...

I have been scratching my head about this team all season. This may be Matta's best roster from top to bottom in terms of talent that he has ever had. No excuses should be the attitude of this team towards in the three loses.

Something is missing and I have had a difficult time putting my finger on it. Here are three things that stand out to me causing problems.

    1) Lack of emotion. I think most coaches want their players to be under control and not get rattled when they get down on the score board or are in a hostile environment - I agree. However, part of attitude is emotion. Players need to be more aggressive, show some heart and play the part that they are better than you. (Swag) as most people call this. We need more of it in pregame, at the tip and at the finsh.

    2) Thomas and Sully need to be just as committed on defense as on offense. Craft, Buford and Smith play hard on both ends of the court, every second. The other two don't. I agree as someone else, Thomas is not NBA ready yet.

    3) The lack of bench play. More players need to come in early off the bench. I don't care if they don't run the plays as crisp in practice or know the game plan as well. We need 3-4 players that come in early and often. The lack of bench play continues to be my biggest frustration with Matta.

This team is talented but none of his teams had two players who were just better than everyone else on the floor like his team that had Oden and Conley. That was easily his best team and Im not just saying that because they made it to the championship game. Conley controlled the ball and did whatever he wanted with it on offense. Oden was the defensive stopper that intimidated anyone who entered the paint. There is nobody on this team that scares anyone. Sullinger is a good player, but he doesnt strike fear in opposing teams.
